    A Cheesy Promotional Video

This video is a promotional video for Papworth Village and serves strictly as a way for viewers to buy into their service. It's super cheesy and looks like a high-school project of non-actors making a video to promote a fake product or some sort of cause.

I initially watched it because James Wong Howe did cinematography for the beginning (which is absolutely fine) but otherwise, this video isn't very entertaining and is irrelevant in 2018. It's fun and interesting to look at though and see how the media tried to sell products. At this time, it posed a problem that would presumably ruin someone's life and then show them how they can have the "perfect life".

Check it out for fun but don't expect much at all.

    Information in Play Form

This short subject about Papworth Village is offered as one of those stiff little plays in which the performers tell each other things the producers want the audience to know. In this case, it's that Papworth Village is (was) a place where tubercular individuals can recover and earn their livings while doing so, and they can use some money to build up the infrastructure.

The copy posted to the BFI site on YouTube lacks the epilogue which is supposed to have C. Aubrey Smith, and that's a pity. He's always interesting to attend to. However, Madeleine Carroll introduces the piece and Cecil Parker has a small role as a doctor. Most of the movie is carried by Elizabeth Allan and Barry MacKay trying and failing to act surprised at the shots of Papworth.

The place is still in operation. Nowadays, they do lung transplants, I believe.
