In Search of Guru Dutt

Guru Dutt was an iconic Hindi cinematic actor and director in fifties and early sixties. Whilst in his lifetime he was more known for his acting roles, his directorial reappraisal, especially of his classic films Pyaasa and Kaagaz ke Phool over the years have cemented his legend as one of the pillars of that golden era.

The documentary is in three equal parts and consists of interviews with his family members, friend and actor Devanand, his cinematographer friend VK Murthy, et al. The language used is both Hindi and English at various points. Scenes from his films, especially musical ones often interlude onscreen and easily make up one third of the total runtime.

It's a decently paced documentary about his cinematic life(especially directorial works) barely touching his personal one.
