Tamarat in this movie was extremely creative and funny with a topic that often takes a serious note when addressed. This could be a great first date movie when your looking for a way to break the ice and stimulate conversation. I really enjoyed the skits as well. Each theme was given just enough time to fully delve into the topic without being too wordy. Then the skits help elaborate each topic but adds a little funny. It's especially refreshing to get comments from black men that are different than the regular negative stereotypes that are portrayed in the media. Especially with the current climate of the Sherman fiasco whom I support. These type of films are needed to help add more color to the spectrum of what is normally told about our community. I would like to see this movie get some more exposure in the near future. I'm looking forward to more from this film maker.
One of the great things about this movie was that interviews of the couples, and singles, were funny, natural, and rang true. I really loved seeing the couples talk like real people, not the caricatures we often are forced to see in so many venues. They struck me as the best interviews I remembered seeing in a light-hearted documentary, as well as the most true to Black life. The vibe was like a mix of Chris Rock's Good Hair and Morgan Spurlock's work - two things I really have enjoyed for their humor and intelligence. This movie now joins those in my "really enjoyed" category.
Another thing I really liked was that, unlike the production on a lot of independent films that are either poorly resourced or poorly shot and scored, it was pleasing to the eye and ear. I enjoyed just watching and listening to it outside of the topics covered, which only added to the experience. More films need to be done this way.
