An epic role playing game for the WII, marred only by the rather shoddy voice overs.

This game is what one would consider a true role playing game. The fighting is turn based, the world is represented on a world map, and you have many towns and locales to visit. The main detractor for this game is the voice work done by whatever American company worked on this. The voices were not bad, but a lot of times it seemed as if they were reading from the page and whoever was supposed to be directing them said, "Well you read it, good enough for me." Aside from this and the fact the magic system is a bit hard to get, the game really is a wonderful role playing game for the WII. Much better than any others they have for the console, but then there really is not all that many to choose from. This game is about a mercenary named L'Arc. At the beginning of the game he is in the middle of a military operation to battle a creature called a 'Feldragon'. He ends up getting knocked off the airship he is riding and ends up meeting a young naive girl named Ryfia who turns out to be a priestess of something called Imaginal's Law. They of course embark on an adventure and soon enough at some town L'Arc gains the power of some being called a Rogress, a being that produces something called Ray that helps reduce something else known as Hozone. Yeah, the game has a lot of plot going in it, but it all makes sense when you are playing it...for the most part anyway. You have a vast array of playable characters in this one and it is nice how their abilities differ. The game also has a part where you split up between differing teams to accomplish a mission and I also enjoy that in a role playing game. It gets very intense at one point where people you had been traveling with you suddenly become your main rivals, however, they made them so obnoxious when they became bad that I so wanted to beat them down. The fighting is good here as you have so many points per turn so you can spread around the actions between your characters or you could make one character perform all the actions. You also get some sweet super attack moves and you do one with all three characters you really do some damage and you get a super attack that all the characters perform jointly. I used defend in this one more than most games, but it is very helpful and necessary in some battles and you can attack a couple of times and defend so it works out nicely. The magic is a bit of a bother, I did not like how you gained magic in this one through most of the game and I actually rarely used magic during most of the game. However, I got more adept at using it near the end and it was helpful in some of the later boss battles. The weapon leveling I loved as you could really make your attack do some powerful damage. There are extra things to do during the game too, but the main story is quite long. So this game is fun, I say though if they are not going to take the time to translate it correctly and good just leave it in Japanese and subtitle it. Other than that it was quite epic.
