In Netflix’s “The Electric State,” the sci-fi adventure from Anthony and Joe Russo, Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt help renew a robot rebellion in an alternate version of the ’90s. The robots themselves are not exactly new, at least not in terms of looks. They share the kitschy design of the robots in the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag on which the film is based. But there are 175 of them — which meant the film needed a prodigious ensemble of motion capture performers.

Led by motion choreographer/actor Terry Notary, the mo-cap team actually outnumbered the principal actors. “It was like a great casting call, trying to find the right characters for the mood of the film,” production designer Dennis Gassner (“Blade Runner 2049”) told IndieWire. “ And it took a lot of trial and error with the visual effects team to make it work.”

The 61st annual Cinema Audio Society (Cas) Awards celebrated achievements in sound mixing across film, television, and documentary categories. The event, hosted by comedian Tom Papa, was held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

In the live-action motion picture category, A Complete Unknown won the top award. The film, directed by James Mangold, highlights Bob Dylan’s early years and features live musical performances. Production sound mixer Tod A. Maitland, who led the sound team, received the Cas Career Achievement Award.

The animated category was won by The Wild Robot. The documentary award went to Music by John Williams, a tribute to the legendary composer.

In television, Masters of the Air won in the non-theatrical motion picture or limited series category. Shōgun received the award for best sound mixing in a one-hour television series. The Bear was recognized in the half-hour category.

Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve received the Cas Filmmaker of the Year Award.

“A Complete Unknown,” “The Wild Robot” (which has been sweeping the guild and honorary society awards), and “Music by John Williams” were the live action, animation, and documentary winners at the 61st Cas Awards, held February 22 at the Beverly Hilton.

Cameras are now rolling on Amazon MGM and Mattel's live-action Masters of the Universe movie in London, and THR brings word on three new additions to the cast.

Agatha All Along's Sasheer Zamata will play Suzie, Double Exposure actor Christian Vunipola will play Hussein, and Eternals stunt performer and The Brothers Sun actor Jon Xue Zhang will play Ram-Man.

Suzie and Hussein are most likely characters created for the movie (there's a good chance they will be friends of Adam on Earth), but Ram-Man should be very familiar to fans of the classic animated series and action figure line.

Much of the thanks should go to director Denis Villeneuve, who is a long-time fan of the Dune books by Frank Herbert and a visionary director behind fantastic sci-fi movies like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. Dune has been adapted for the screen before, but something about Villeneuve's movies hit different. It's the perfect project for him.

Frank Herbert wrote six Dune books before he passed away. Villenueve's first two Dune movies cover only the first novel. This year, he'll start filming Dune: Part Three, an adaptation of Dune Messiah, the second novel in Herbert's series. There are some good books after that, but Villeneuve has made clear that he's done with the franchise after Dune: Part Three.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always benefited from highly skilled and popular actors who bring Marvel comic characters to life. The biggest MCU movies have had massive star power with the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Production is now underway on the live-action Masters of the Universe movie in London, and the first set photos have been shared online.

We recently got a first look at star Nicholas Galitzine in the process of training to take on the lead role of He-Man, and we now have our first look at the actor filming scenes as Prince Adam.

As you can see, Galitzine is sporting that unmistakable He-Man-style hairdo, as well as Adam's signature pink attire. The photos also reveal a first look at the hero's Power Sword... which appears to have been confiscated by the police.
