But here’s the thing, why are the Duttons so naturally inclined to, let’s say, remove obstacles permanently? Is it the fresh Montana air? The unrelenting pressure of keeping the ranch intact? Or is it simply that once you start throwing people into a conveniently placed abyss, it’s hard to stop? Well, thanks to 1923 Season 2, we finally have some answers. And trust us, they’re just as dramatic as you’d expect.

"Yellowstone" failed to address several unanswered questions before the show's fifth and (presumably) final season wrapped up. Episode 3 was a powerful episode and a difficult story to follow, but by focusing more on Jacob and Cara and the primary Dutton's struggles,1923 manages to maintain momentum moving into the back half of the season. Episode 4 seemingly acts as a turning point for not just the Duttons in Montana, but likely for how the entire rest of the season may play out going into the final conflict with Creighton and Whitfield.

These Yellowstone sequels are big on journeys but not so much on meaningful storytelling.

So much of 1923 is traveling from one place to another, and it’s kind of exhausting. It sometimes feels like we’re running mad but standing still at the same time, as if we’re traveling on a treadmill.

But before we get into the Duttons of it all, it’s worth noting that we were stuck with more from Donald Whitfield and his crew and a surprisingly short segment involving Teonna Rainwater.

The staccato nature of this show’s storytelling, taking us all over the world and back in one episode during 1923 Season 1 and visiting entirely different states with barely overlapping stories in 1923 Season 2, isn’t my favorite.

That’s usually asked about the creator regarding how he’s conceived and aired eight scripted TV series in a little more than six years, starting with “Yellowstone” and including “Tulsa King,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” and “Lioness.” It also applies to his current and most sprawling series, “1923.” This show, a prequel to “Yellowstone,” currently balances at least seven storylines, all featuring characters on their own journeys in different settings and largely separated from one another. We’ve always believed that a good story should be like a finely tuned orchestra—every note harmonizing perfectly. But in the case of 1923 Season 2, it feels like Taylor Sheridan might have handed the baton to the wrong conductor.

The currently ongoing 1923 is yet another addition to the list, with a mastermind and creative visionary like Harrison Ford starring among the prominent characters to continue the Dutton prequel saga.

In fact, when it comes to working with Sheridan, even Ford put down his only rule that he ostensibly carries forward in pretty much every single one of his pieces: Asking for rewrites where he felt the dialogue didn’t feel appropriate for his character—something that Kevin Costner inevitably couldn’t do for his Yellowstone lore with Sheridan.

One of the biggest reasons why Taylor Sheridan managed to become such a big name in Hollywood within such minimal time is his epic scripts.

What really got under my skin wasn’t just the sheer intensity of the scenes themselves but how creator Taylor Sheridan knew exactly what was coming. He didn’t just sit down and pen this scene—he meticulously prepared Julia Schlaepfer for it, almost like a coach gearing up his player for a brutal match.

Starring alongside Annaleigh Ashford, upcoming Paramount+ series “Happy Face” follows real-life murderer Keith Jesperson, also known as the Happy Face Killer. Ashford stars as Jesperson’s daughter Melissa Reed Aka Melissa G. Moore, who is forced to confront the carnage caused by her father during the trial of another alleged killer.

“Keith Jesperson is a serial killer,” Quaid told IndieWire of his character at Paramount+’s The Lodge in SXSW. “He killed eight women in five years. He was also a father to Annaleigh’s character, Melissa, and she had a very close relationship. Then she found out at the age of 15, when he was caught, that he was a serial killer. This week’s Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report presents an interesting juxtaposition. The Oscars telecast, on Sunday, March 2, was far and away the most-watched linear program of the week, with 13.1 million households tuning in. While that celebration of movies drew massive viewership, the nominated movies themselves were not big draws over on streaming, where many are currently available across a variety of services.

During the weekend of the Oscars, Feb. 28 to March 2, the most-viewed Best Picture nominee was “A Complete Unknown,” was seen in 182,000 households, likely aided by its Feb. 25 launch on VOD. Meanwhile, eventual Best Picture winner “Anora” was seen in 82,000 households, placing it fifth among the nine nominees.

Now, many of these films may have been seen in theatres during their initial release, and some can expect a bump in the weeks to come. But the main story on streaming this week is TV series, which hold eight of the 10 spots.
