Billy Strings Gives ‘King of the Hill’ Theme a Bluegrass Makeover
Image
Even change-averse Hank Hill would approve of this update: Billy Strings and his band have put their own spin on the King of the Hill theme song for the show’s Hulu revival. The new 10-episode season — its 14th — is streaming now on Hulu and catches up with the Hill family in a vastly different America.

Strings’ bluegrass makeover of the song, originally recorded by the Refreshments and titled “Yahoos and Triangles,” plays over the show’s closing credits. Strings gets an assist from his band, along with some additional musicians.

Image
Post Malone and Swae Lee’s hit song “Sunflower” just made history. The track, which was part of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack in 2018, is now the most-streamed song of all time in the United States.

According to a new report from Luminate, it has hit a total of 3.96 billion streams across audio and video platforms, beating the previous record-holder “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X.

“Sunflower” came out as a single in late 2018 and was also included on Post Malone’s third album, Hollywood’s Bleeding. It was an instant success and topped the Billboard Hot 100. The song spent 33 weeks in the chart’s top ten, which was a big deal at the time. That record has since been broken by another one of Malone’s songs, “Circles.”

Circles: sequel to 2015 sci-fi thriller Circle is now filming
Henry Fonda, Martin Balsam, Jack Klugman, Lee J. Cobb, Ed Begley, Edward Binns, John Fiedler, E.G. Marshall, Joseph Sweeney, George Voskovec, Jack Warden, and Robert Webber in 12 Hommes en colère (1957)
A decade ago, the writing and directing duo of Aaron Hann and Mario Miscione drew inspiration from the classic 1957 drama 12 Angry Men while making the sci-fi psychological thriller Circle, which ended up gathering a cult following after it was released through the Netflix streaming service. Now, Deadline reports that a sequel titled Circles is now filming in Buffalo, New York!

If you need a refresher, Circle had the following synopsis: In a massive, mysterious chamber, fifty strangers awaken to find themselves trapped with no memory of how they got there. Organized in an inward-facing circle and unable to move, they quickly learn that every two minutes one of them must die… executed by a strange device in the center of the room. At first the attacks seem random, but soon the strangers realize that they, as a group, have the power to decide who will be the next to be killed.

PinkPantheress Takes a Quick Spin Through the Club
Image
As Charli Xcx takes a U.S. victory lap and Afrobeats continue to reinvigorate r&b, it’s worth noting how pop music — traditionally, one of America’s mightiest exports — has been sounding a lot more interesting overseas.

More proof is Fancy That, the new mixtape by PinkPantheress, a.k.a. Victoria Beverley Walker. Like Charli, Walker is another powerful British artist of mixed heritage making music rooted in multicultural UK club styles. She certainly flexes her Britishness on Fancy That, from the colloquial-kitsch title to the jaunty way she...

Is Post Malone’s venture into country music the key to winning his first Grammys?
Image
It’s hard to tell how much the recording academy loves Post Malone, but at the very least they seem to like him a lot. He hasn’t actually won an award yet, but he’s regularly nominated in top categories. Now the genre-hopping artist is entering uncharted territory: country music. Will it be his ticket to a win?

Malone has two previous Grammy nominations for Album of the Year: “Beerbongs and Bentleys” in 2019 and “Hollywood’s Bleeding” in 2021. He’s also one of the few artists in history to receive three consecutive noms for Record of the Year: “Rockstar” featuring 21 Savage in 2019, “Sunflower” with Swae Lee in 2020 and “Circles” in 2021. Rounding out his impressive general field track record is a Song of the Year bid for “Circles” in 2021. In all, the eclectic artist has been nominated 10 times, including genre bids in pop and rap categories. Alas, no victories as of yet.

Incubus Kick Off “Morning View + the Hits Tour” in Detroit: See Photos, Setlist
Image
Incubus kicked off their 2024 “Morning View + the Hits Tour” in Detroit, Michigan over the weekend, where they played their 2001 album Morning View in full. The tour comes on the heels of Morning View Xxiii, a re-recorded version of the album that arrived back in May.

Incubus intended to have their 20th anniversary Morning View celebration in 2021, but the pandemic had other plans — instead of the full-fledged tour they’ve now finally embarked on, Incubus held a special livestreamed performance at the house that Morning View was recorded at in October 2021.

The group also commemorated the album with a hometown performance at the Hollywood Bowl last fall, where Lizzo appeared as a guest to play flute on closing track “Aqueous Transmission.” They previously brought their 1999 breakout LP Make Yourself on tour to celebrate that album’s 20th birthday in 2019 — now, it’s Morning View’s turn.

Post Malone’s Summer Vacation in Nashville Turned Out Pretty Darn Good

Back in 2021, Post Malone turned the heads of country-music fans when he covered two songs on the opposite ends of the country spectrum during an online telethon: Brad Paisley’s radio hit “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song)” and Sturgill Simpson’s underground favorite “You Can Have the Crown.” Malone, a pop superstar who has been teasing his country fandom as far back as 2015, delivered the tunes with traditional twang and rough-edged vibes, suggesting a genuine affinity for and deep knowledge of the genre. Review: Lady Gaga’s Soft-Rock Turn ‘Joanne’ Is Her Best in Years

Joanne is Lady Gaga’s best album in five years, since the disco-stick hair-metal manifesto that was Born This Way. In her quest to master all pop spectacle – hit singles, scandalous TV stunts, The Sound of Music medleys at award shows – Gaga’s been too restless to slow down for albums. Or maybe after she hit it so far out of the park with Born This Way, she figured album-making was a party trick she’d already done. Her Tony Bennett duet was a clever rebranding Hail Mary after her...
