I was born the year this video came out- so I'm 26 years old. Obviously, I'm not the target audience for this video, but the title intrigued me, so when I found it on YouTube, I gave it a watch.
Barney In Outer Space sets the kids in a late night astronomy club at school, where their teacher Mrs. Kepler (a reference to a famous astronomer), falls asleep.
Barney comes to life, and takes the kids to a fictional planet where another girl lives.
You also learn about NASA, the first moon landing, and about the lack of gravity in space. You certainly get your education in this video.
The songs are whatever, nothing as catchy as Mr. Sun or the Macorni and Cheese song. They do teach the alien girl Itsy Bitsy Spider at one point.
Since I'm over 20 years over the target audience for Barney, it did seem a bit dull and well, childish at times. But of course, it's a Barney video. It is what it is.
I imagine that my audience reading this review are adults looking for Barney videos for their kids. This fits the bill, but you will likely want something better with your time.
I technically didn't like it, but with a video called Barney In Outer Space, I got what I asked for.
Plus, the YouTube video posted had previews for other Barney tapes, some of which I saw as a kid, that was nostalgic.
On a thumbs up, thumbs down scale, this is not recommended to anyone who wouldn't watch the purple dinosaur in the first place. But for what it is, it was okay, and fun for certain moments.
Long story short: I don't recommend it, but it's fine for the kids and it has cool moments. 6/10 is about right.
