Normally love any thing Timothy Spall is in but this was disappointing. Started out with great premise then was just silly and predictable. It couldn't work out if was to be a comedy or more serious drama. None of the characters were that likeable and when they do flights for those with a fear of flying they just take off, fly around for under an hour and land at the airport they took off from. Story too unbelievable and by the end I didn't care what happened to all of them.
The parter the main character was with wasn't a nice person and you got annoyed that she wouldn't own up and admit she was still scared of flying which was basically the whole of the storyline.

Northern Comfort is certainly different. It's a novel plot with an opportunity for it's characters to be endearing, but instead follows individual arcs where none of them are particularly likeable.
A small group of people with a fear of flying undertake a course to overcome their phobia. Through a series of unfortunate circumstances, they find themselves marooned in Iceland. Whilst the the plot does get going, for a relatively short film it doesn't fly by at all.
It's quirky, but fails to capture enough attention to be able to recall the names of the characters. The comedy is weak, provided through the unconventional or deadpan. Some beautiful scenery is showcased, but you could watch an advert from the Icelandic tourism board for that.

A guy here in the reviews that said the movie is funny and great is probably drunk, really.
Its one of the most or THE MOST dumbest movie i have ever seen in my life, I swear!!!
Its definately not a comedy movie, this movie is a HUGE SCAM, shouldnt be in the cinema at all!
70% of the people that were watching it in the cinema with me just left in the middle, really. Such a cringe and boring movie... If i could rate it 0, I would do that.
Wish i could get my money back :/
Do yourself and your pocket a favor and dont watch it Do yourself and your pocket a favor and dont watch it Just dont!!!

This film really missed the mark for me. It's rare to find anything with Tim Spall in that disappoints, but this did fall into that category. I had high hopes despite the fairly average rating, as I felt that this had good ingredients, but unfortunately, they were deployed badly.
I am usually keen on anything involving aviation, mystery, or wonderful landscapes, but I wasn't engaged with this at all. None of the characters were believable as they were so riddled with contradictions and were never properly developed. The few moments of comedy were absurd rather than clever and, despite mostly decent acting performances, the script failed to properly explain or explore anything to give the viewer something to invest in.
The pacing of the film felt all wrong for a comedy and equally wrong for a credible drama, so for me, it didn't really deliver on any level. A real shame given what could have been done with this,

I've no idea why this has such a low rating. I thought it was really funny and just the right side of bonkers!
I only watched it because it was listed under 'deadly disasters' on Netflix, even though the blurb didn't seem to match that description. So, I presume people expecting an actual disaster movie would be disappointed. I guessed it was probably more of a comedy and was pleasantly surprised that it was so good.
It's definitely worth an evening's watch on the sofa, especially if you fancy something light and a bit silly.
And hats off to the lead for all that running about in the freezing cold!

- TriviaThis was filmed at Gatwick Airport in the south terminal while it was closed during the Covid-19 pandemic and some of the security staff were asked to be extras and I was one of them, although didn't make it into the film unfortunately.
- GoofsAs the group are boarding the plane, there is a shot of the exterior of the plane. It clearly has its engine covers on and is not prepared for flight.
