I really only watched this show because I support all
things Chicago (Deon Cole) but was thoroughly impressed. The show was not only nail biting at times but had a funny edge they kept me intrigued the entire time. The incorporation of the African American culture with the Russian culture was the most interesting part of the show. Once again proving that at the end of the day we are all human and love is love. Deon Cole did an amazing job and proved he is much more than a comedian and the next Hollywood actor to watch. Great job and kudos to the entire Average Joe cast and creators. I wish there was another season to look forward to and would love to see this added to the BET+ roster of programming.
BET or black entertainment television although technically correct for this series is doing it a disservice as it's limiting its audience.
This is a complete blockbuster that does not miss a step.
Black white Asian Latino Martian whatever this needs to be simultaneously broadcast on additional networks.
Yes the preponderance of cast are black but that has nothing to do with this show.
Except to show that everyone faced with the similar circumstances can turn into a sociopath.
Love hate complete disbelief are all social aspects to everyday life and everyone experiences them regardless of race.

This was unexpectedly very good. Deon Cole? You can't take a project serious right there, or can you? Cole and the other actors and actresses in this did very well. One of the protaganists is a Dave Chapelle look alike in both speech and comedic wit and timing.
The story itself is intriguing. Its a plot that could've fell flat on its surface but is executed very well here. There is genuine suspense here. Every episode is full of plot points that draw you in and make you either hate or like a character's actions. Netflix or whoever owns the rights has to complete this by coming out with a new season.

I loved this show. It would be totally crazy to not have a Season 2 or more. There are so many things left hanging, and I like many are invested in these characters and need to see what happened to them. It would be a crying same if this turns out to be one of those series that just ends and leaves you wondering. If it does that would be my one and only complaint. The two bad reviews I see here must have some sort of problem to give those reviews or they weren't paying attention. Many people in this country do not want something they have to pay attention to which is why we have so many awful reality shows.
I do not know what I expected from this show, I hadn't seen any trailers or anything. All I knew was Deon Cole was in it and I had recently become a fan of his after I started watching Black-ish and I saw and enjoyed two of his stand up specials on Netflix. BET shows a lot the time for me have been hit and miss with some gems here and there. This show? Is most definitely a gem. It's a drama but it has an adequate mix of comedy in it for good measure, especially the character Leon he is a funny character. Everybody's reaction to the given situation feels natural and accaurate. My main critique however is that some of the action scenes felt a bit awkward, they could have redone some here and there. I had no idea Deon Cole had this level of acting range in him, he's really good as the main protaganist. If you liked those TNT crime shows like Claws or Animal Kingdom, you'll probably enjoy this show. Or maybe if you liked shows like Good Girls or maybe Ozark from Netflix, then you'll enjoy this.
