Featured reviews
I went into The Smurfs knowing the reviews weren't great, but it was the only movie playing at a time that worked for me. So... expectations were low, and yet I still walked out underwhelmed.
The plot is confusing: the script never really makes it clear what the characters are trying to do next. It kind of meanders from scene to scene without much direction. There are 2 or 3 jokes that actually land, but the rest either fall flat or are just painfully repetitive (looking at you, Sound Effects Smurf).
The movie tries to be self-aware and "not take itself too seriously," but it doesn't quite work. It wants to be cool and clever, but it comes off more like it's trying too hard.
I saw a review warning about a scene that might scare kids (when Razamel threatens to kill the smurfs). Honestly, my 4-year-old daughter (and every other kid in the theater) was totally fine. I think that comment came from an overly sensitive parent with an even more sensitive kid.
Bottom line: The Smurfs isn't the worst movie ever made, but it's definitely not a good one. Passable if you're desperate, forgettable otherwise.

This movie was very disappointing. I dont feel the voices fit the roles. I was used to Smurfettes voice being cute and dainty. The voice instead was rough and didnt fit her character. The plot didnt make sense. It seemed like things were juat thrown togethet and not thought out. They bleeped swear words all out at the end of movie in which my kids asked what that was. I dont want to have to explain an adult thing in a kids movie. I was very upset with this version. I think movies need to stick close to the original versions and characters. If not, it messes the movie up and highly disappoints.
I suppose having Rihanna as a main character should have tipped me off that there would be a lot of dance numbers and random songs, but... it was also jarring to have "real" scenes thrown in, but really only for a backdrop for the smurfs to run through, not in any attempt to interact with characters there. Just CGI the whole thing if you aren't going to actually use the real world scenes for anything. In fact I think the only real world character that talked wore a helmet with tinted face screen.
As for the plot... it was okay. Not expecting much from a smurfs movie and it delivered. I think the best part of the movie was Joel the evil wizards top henchmen.
If you have a kid they will likely enjoy it, check your brain at the door and prepare for odd juxtaposition and you'll be ok.

Smurfs 2025 wow what horrible garbage mess of a movie. It's like the franchise automatically knew you've been a smurfs fan forever and there's no need to have a story or decent plot so if your not the whole lore they have created makes no sense and falls really flat. I'm not a huge smurfs fan and my son wanted to see it and even he torwards the end became very uninterested and the music was bad Nd didn't add much to the story. The animation was ok and I get they were trying to be different but sometimes being too different is a curse and it just didn't work, the characters were 1 dimensional, and again i get it's a kids movie but what happened to movies that were made for both parents and kids. I think this may be just a cash grab, and maybe good press for Rhianna. Not only was it unnecessary it was super bad to watch too.
Actors for the smurfs ere not right. Hard to watch. Better to watch when it comes to an instead and "free". No name and Smurfette were hard to watch which matters it difficult cause the movie is mostly about them. It's more of a movie containing all of Rhianna's music along side an okay storyline. Skip it, totally. It worth it. I love Rhianna just not a fan of her voice acting for animated movies. Just stay home and wait for it to come out. I promise you're not missing much. There are many other smurf movies that are a whole lot better. This is predictable and not very exciting. I was tried my best to keep interested.

- Quotes
Hefty Smurf: Hey, what about us?
Razamel: Dressers don't get clown drinks! But, I do have another treat in store for you. I hope you like... party games! We're going to play one called: let's squish a smurf everytime Papa doesn't tell me where the last magic book is, until all you smurfs ARE SQUASHED!
Hefty Smurf: That doesn't sound like a fun game.
- Alternate versionsThe UK release was cut, the distributor chose to slightly increase the duration of a bleep on the soundtrack so that the mild bad language which was partially disguised behind the bleep could not be made out. This change was made in order to obtain a U classification. An uncut PG classification was available.
