Set in a future where a cataclysmic war is waged daily on American soil, "Fallout" focuses on the investigation into a failed mission by a Department of Homeland Security counterterrorism team to stop a group of terrorists with a suitcase nuke in the ruins of Phoenix, Arizona. A military investigator examines for evidence of betrayal - via questioning and a brutal holographic memory extraction process - though he may have his own agenda. An epic science fiction action thriller inspired by "24," "Stargate SG-1," "The Wire," and "Minority Report," "Fallout" was shot entirely on greenscreen and was produced by the students and faculty of the University of Advancing Technology's Digital Video Program. 31 students worked on this project for more than a year.

Reviewer misses the point

What the reviewer above needs to realize is that this film wasn't made to be anything more than an educational experience for the college students who produced it and created all the visual effects. The process and the learning experience were the important part. The fact that it went on to a long and lauded festival run was icing on the cake. The team that made this was comprised entirely of undergrad students at University of Advancing Technology, where up until this point the concept of shooting a fully greenscreen movie had never been attempted. Frankly, we weren't even sure we could pull it off. Sure, the story is a hodge-podge of sci-fi tropes from other sources, but we go ahead and say as much in the closing credits. The story wasn't the point.

Whether you like the film or dislike the film is irrelevant. The students who worked on it are all now well on their way to successful careers in Hollywood and elsewhere in film and television. The experience of working on Fallout was among the formative moments on their paths to becoming professionals.

Rating this a 5/10 so as to not be accused of upvoting my own film.
