'This Is Us' empowers Senegalese students who live in villages without electricity to write, film, and narrate stories about their daily lives, hopes, and challenges.

This Is Us director Jeremy Teicher innovates a new genre of subject-filmed documentary beyond the basic "give cameras then collect footage" method: not only did the Senegalese students film every image themselves, but they also wrote and recorded their own narrations. They tell their own stories, from script to screen.
