What did we do to deserve Izzy?

Why do writers punish us loyal fans by inflicting awful characters on us?

And in the same episode bring back a great character just to keep us watching. Ain't nobody changing channels on Darlene. (The channels are metaphorical)

There was no need for a gobby, selfish, rude nightmare of a sister to turn up and I feel that dragging out that "storyline" over multiple episodes is unnecessarily cruel.

Izzy honestly ruined the entire episode for me as she's just so flippin annoying.

After the first viewing I just skip her scenes, but that spoils the experience too.

The main story is really good, I worked out who and how within the first 15 mins, but the why kept me guessing and that's rather enjoyable.

I also enjoyed Marlon and Naomi having bigger parts in the episode and watching their growing relationship.

Personally, I really like Neville, he's a wonderful blend of Richard and Humphrey. Or maybe a continuation of Richard's character, the more laid-back version he might have become had he had more time.

    General review...

I've loved DIP since the start but I find myself getting annoyed now at some of the things that pop up now. Things like Naomi always referring to Florence as "Sarge" - they're the same rank, she'd call her by name (this may have happened with JP too); Naomi always wearing her hat indoors - why?? Also, why the introduction of really annoying characters? At least Parker was made less so, probably due to audience reaction, but Ruby would never have made it as a cop, Marlon would have been disciplined for insubordination and as for Izzy... I understand that it's fiction, I understand that it's meant to be light-hearted but can we please have a moratorium on characters that produce homicidal feelings in the viewers? 😂

Cracking episode, but Izzy, she has to go.

Neville and team investigate the death of a young pop singer, not only does he have that to deal with, but he also has his noisy sister to contend with.

This was a very enjoyable episode, and after last week's somewhat disappointing episode, the series is very much back on track. A good mystery, good set of characters, and a victim that I felt incredibly sorry for, a cruel death in Paradise.

It wasn't perfect, there were a few irritations, the main ones being Neville's carrying on with the toothbrush, and Izzy, oh my days, she's the most irritating character I can think of, she makes Ruby (from the past) seem subtle. She has to go.

I am absolutely delighted to see the return of Darlene here, Ginny Holder is perfect for the part, how lovely that we'll get to see more of her.

Lovely acting throughout, it is always a joy to see anything featuring the wonderful Camille Coduri.

Terrific shots and locations once again, it looked incredible, especially on a cold February night.

    Very good, 8/10.

    Not great

Alarm bells started ringing for me in this episode the minute Dwayne was mentioned. I had a horrible feeling that he'd end up returning as the new DI.

Instead we got the even more annoying Izzy, Neville's sister, who was a terrible character it seems we are now stuck with for the foreseeable.

Not a great murder mystery storyline either.

    Episode 11.5

Ayana Jelani is a young pop star who might still be alive if she only said no no no to rehab.

Instead she is found dead in a rehabilitation clinic in Saint Marie. It seems like an accidental death as Jelani was allergic to aspirin and that she was given this as part of her medication.

Darlene Curtis is the nurse who gave the medicine and she protests her innocence. She was also a friend of Dwayne. Commissioner Patterson lends a sympathetic ear.

DI Neville is puzzled by a toothbrush that was placed upside down.

The previous episode was disappointing. This was a much better story. It had several suspects who might have had a motive to harm Jelani. The investigating team which has been diminished since Florence left all step up.

I was puzzled as to why Neville's irritating sister was introduced. Also why did she need to ring Catherine Bordey's bar as she lost her own brother's mobile phone number. Surely someone else in the family had his number or just try emailing him.

    • Goofs
The victim died from an allergic reaction to aspirin, when questioned the doctor says nobody in the clinic is being prescribed aspirin, only other anti-inflammatories. However, all anti-inflammatories work the same, no-one is only allergic to aspirin. Also almost all anti-inflammatories have aspirin added to them.

This is something that most doctors were not taught (for some inexplicable reason) so the doctor not knowing this is not a mistake by the program makers.
