Exclusive: British TV has featured its fair share of wealth on screen down the years – just think Downton Abbey or Brideshead Revisited – but in Wild Cherry, creator Nicôle Lecky wanted to shine new light on the super rich.
The thriller is set in a gated community, a collection of large houses and apartments in places like the Home Counties in which mini ecosystems develop, where wealth can be an ultimate currency whatever one’s background.
“I used to drive through a gated community in Surrey and I would look at these mansions and think, ‘Gosh who lives there?’,” Lecky told Deadline. “It had such a strong sense of an England that I hadn’t seen before. I knew I wanted to set something there.”

Exclusive: BAFTA-winner Nick Leather is heading inside the National Crime Agency (Nca) and the “most successful law enforcement operation in UK history” for his latest TV project.
Leather has tied with Mood producer Bonafide Films on the as-yet-untitled series, which we are told is in early-stage conversation with potential buyers. Tom Dunbar is producing.
Leather’s drama will reveal the inner workings of the Nca through a story that focuses on the 2020 infiltration of the encrypted phone-system EncroChat, and how it gave the agency a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to decimate the criminal underworld. With a ticking clock, a secret to keep hidden and in the face of unprecedented challenges, the Nca ultimately delivered ‘Operation Venetic’, which Leather and the creative team described as the “most successful law enforcement operation in UK history.” There have been more than 3,400 arrests so far including almost 13,300 years of combined sentencing, and the operation is still ongoing.

Harlan Coben's next series on Netflix will be Run Away. The eight-episode series will be based on Coben's book from 2019. And just like with everything else Coben, you know you are going to want to see it. The recently announced cast will certainly make that a possibility.
The plot involves a father, Simon, whose eldest daughter, Paige, runs away. Simon searches for her (of course!) but finds her high on drugs in a city park. The story does not end there, though. Simon thinks Paige is alone, but she isn't, and violence ensues. He loses his daughter all over again, and his new search for her sends him into an underworld that could tear their family apart.
But who is playing Simon and who is playing Paige? That is what you really want to know, right? Good news! We now know all that information.

Netflix‘s next Harlan Coben adaptation has set its cast with James Nesbitt, Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver and Alfred Enoch leading the ensemble.
The eight-episode series Run Away follows Simon (Nesbitt), who seemingly had the perfect life. But then, his eldest daughter Paige ran away and everything fell apart. When he finds her, vulnerable and strung out on drugs in a city park, he finally has the chance to bring his little girl home.
“But it turns out she’s not alone, and an argument escalates into shocking violence,” a plot synopsis reads. “In the aftermath, Simon loses his daughter all over again, and his search to find her will take him into a dangerous underworld, revealing deep secrets that could tear his family apart forever.”
In keeping with previous Coben adaptations Fool Me Once and Missing You, Run Away will relocate the story from the U.S. to the U.

Each December, journalist Liz Pelly observes Spotify Wrapped day with a mix of horror and hope. For the past decade or so, Pelly has been writing critical essays and investigations into Spotify and its practices for publications like The Baffler. 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? star Michael Ilesanmi is revealing his plans for 2025 as he gears up for his legal battle against Angela Deem. Michael came to the U.S. from Nigeria in December 2023 after years of struggling to get a visa. He’d married Angela in January 2020 since his K-1 visa was rejected. Michael was urged to leave Angela by fans several times. Michael was repeatedly subjected to mistreatment by his wife, who never missed a chance to berate him if he did anything against his wishes. However, Michael stayed put. He wanted to come to America.
Michael left Angela within two months of reaching the U.S. She has accused him of marrying her fraudulently to become a permanent resident of her country.
Michael has no qualms about admitting that he is building a better life for himself in America all on his own. As he enters his second year living independently,...

Prince Andrew, once a prominent figure in the Royal Family, is reportedly struggling to cope with his diminished status following a series of scandals. Sources claim the Duke is so “demoralised” by his fall from grace that he has even refused to walk the late Queen’s beloved corgis, a duty he was previously known to enjoy.
Two of the Queen’s corgis were gifted to Andrew following her passing, but the Duke is said to be so despondent that he now asks footmen to take the dogs for their daily walks. This revelation comes amidst reports that Andrew will not be attending the royal family’s Christmas celebrations at Sandringham this year.

One Pokémon fan decided to merge their love for the Pokémon Trading Card Game with their wildlife photography to make some fake cards that fans wish were real. One of the draws of the Tcg for collectors is the beautiful artwork that's featured on each card. Each pack even features rarer, alternate art and full illustration cards of the same card, with the only difference being the drawing depicted on it.
Pokémon fan and wildlife photographer Opposite-Mood-7045 shared some mockups on Reddit of wildlife Tcg cards using photographs that they took themselves. There are nine cards in total, most of which depict different types of birds, but a beaver and a frog also make it into the mix. The photographer even created two full-art cards, which would likely be players' chase cards if these cards were real.

British creative Nicôle Lecky has said the streamers didn’t understand the nuances behind her BAFTA-winning BBC drama Mood when she was pitching the show.
Lecky, who is working on another untitled BBC series, said “there was a push to nail [Mood] as one thing” when she was speaking with the SVoDs, whereas she praised the nation’s public broadcaster for understanding the specificities behind Mood.

Captured with luminous visuals and a pitch-perfect soundtrack, Manning Walker’s directorial debut paints a painfully familiar portrait of young adulthood, and how first sexual experiences should – or shouldn’t – play out. How To Have Sex stars Screen Stars of Tomorrow 2023 Mia McKenna-Bruce and BAFTA-nominated Samuel Bottomley, alongside Lara Peake, Shaun Thomas, and newcomers Enva Lewis and Laura Ambler.

BAFTA has shaken up major categories and rung in some eligibility changes as entries open for the 2024 TV awards.
Limited drama is a new category for scripted one-off programs or series that tell a complete story over 1-19 episodes, replacing separate categories for single drama and mini-series. “The introduction of limited drama maintains the opportunity for single self-contained films to be eligible following a decline in entries to the single drama category in recent years,” BAFTA said.
To put this in perspective, at the 2023 awards, “I Am Ruth,” starring Kate Winslet, won the single drama category, while Nicôle Lecky’s “Mood” won the best mini-series category. In 2024, there will only be one winner, under the new limited drama category. The drama series category remains unchanged.
The changes were flagged earlier by BAFTA. As set out in the 2023 rulebook, categories with under 20 entries will see three, rather than the standard four nominations announced,...

Rap legend Shaggy has hit out at the bizarre rumours that he mixes marijuana in his tea, and chain smokes weed, calling it fabricated nonsense. The 54-year-old rapper says he rarely ever touches the drug and insists that the suggestion he drinks it in his tea is utterly “bogus”, reports mirror.co.uk.
Shaggy, whose hits include the smash singles, ‘Angel’, ‘It Wasn’t Me’ and ‘Boombastic’, has said that while he does go out for ‘the occasional puff’ with friends, he largely stays clear of the substance, so chain smoking weed is out of the question.
Talking about his interest in marijuana, he said: “I never said I put it in my tea. I don’t drink weed in my tea. I don’t even smoke it.”
“I might have an occasional puff here and there in a social environment with my friends but nothing of that nature. I...

“Silk” screenwriter Peter Moffat is adapting Jonathan Freedland’s non-fiction book “The Escape Artist,” which tells the true story of two Jews who escaped from Auschwitz.
Margery Bone’s Bonafide Films has secured the rights to Freedland’s book, which is set to be made into a high-end limited series. Bonafide, who have a development and distribution deal with BBC Studios, recently produced Nicôle Lecky’s BAFTA-winning “Mood.”
“The Escape Artist” centers around nineteen-year-old Rudolf Vrba, a Slovakian Jew who manages to escape Auschwitz alongside fellow internee Fred Wetzler, and warn the world about what was happening. Their actions saved the lives of at least 200,000 Jews who were facing immediate deportation from Budapest to the world’s most notorious death camp.
“This is a story of how human beings can be pushed to the outer limits, and yet still somehow endure,” said Freeland. “How the actions of one individual, even a teenage boy,...

In Mood, Lecky plays Sasha, a budding singer trying to make it with the odds stacked against her. Featuring musical performances in each episode, it was based on her one-woman play, Superhoe, and garnered critical acclaim.
Jason Isaacs and Doctor Who actor Freema Agyeman presented the award at the BAFTAs this afternoon.
In an emotional acceptance speech, creator Lecky dedicated the win to her mum, who passed away recently.
“I want to inspire the next generation of storytellers,” she added. “Even if you go through dark times, there is always light to come out of it so thank you so much.
Nicôle Lecky’s musical drama also beat ITV double The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe and A Spy Among Friends to the prize.

The British version of the Emmys is set for Sunday, May 14 with the main ceremony of the BAFTAs taking place in London. While these awards aren’t exactly a, uh, crystal clear crystal ball for the Emmys, they can give some insight into which British shows may make the successful trip across the Atlantic. At the same time, it also gives an insight into which American shows are proving to be the Brits’ particular, uh, cup of tea.
This year’s BAFTA ceremony will take at the Royal Festival Hall and will be hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan. Two shows lead the way in nominations this year, with Ben Whishaw‘s “This is Going to Hurt” and Martin Freeman‘s “The Responder” each receiving six nominations.
Like the Emmys, the BAFTAs split their TV awards into two parts — the main ceremony and an earlier celebration devoted to celebrating the creative arts.
