    It's a bettersweet episode ...

Even though justice was served in the end , a lot happens in this episode that'll break your heart.

    Nothing black or white

Really admired already "Gray" on first watch for even daring to tackle the subjects of alcohol and campus rape, both extremely relevant and tough subjects that need to be addressed more (hence why the campus rape subject was done a number of times since yet with different attitudes depicted, with varied success. Soya Paxton was a polarising character in the fandom and still is, count me in as someone that liked her. Despite being described as antagonistic, at least she had personality and her points of view were understandable.

"Gray" has always struck me as a very good episode, if not quite exceptional. As far as the inconsistent Season 12 goes, to me it is one of the better episodes and the best since "Merchandise" (though not as good). Paxton's return was done very well, and the two major issues were well handled. While Season 8's "Responsible" covered alcohol abuse with more breadth, "Gray" has the much stronger case. As far as the campus rape stories for the show go, this is one of the better ones too.

Almost everything is good. The production values are slick and have a subtle grit, with an intimacy to the photography without being too claustrophobic. The music isn't used too much and doesn't get too melodramatic. The direction has enough taut urgency when needed while giving the case breathing space.

The script is taut, with no extraneous fat, and provokes a lot of tension. The story is shocking and wrenches the gut. Actually thought the subjects of alcohol abuse and campus rape were handled well, brave subjects not talked about enough at the time and in need of being. Uncompromising but not laid on too thick. The alcohol abuse is particularly well handled and comes over as relatable, enough to make one get help if they have a problem with it.

Christine lahti makes a welcome return and the tensions that come with her are refreshing. Stabler's personal life is not soapy or over emphasised for the first time in forever. In terms of the acting, the regulars and support are all great.

Did however find the ending on the abrupt side.

Plus Stabler behaves too much like a jerk, his treatment of Paxton was uncalled for and not deserved.

    Overall, very good. 8/10.

    Dark Eyes

"The cops ask me, if my tights show my body too much?"

It is the projection of these stereotypes and prejudices that makes Law and Order Svu special.

The dialogue between the judge and the victim is amazing...

It's like a mirror of the system and patterns. Moreover, even woman ensure that these patterns continue...

    Paxton... Awesome...

Carolyn Maddox, the Defense Attorney, played by CCH Pounder, ironically helped defend Stabler's daughter in the episode Swing (2008) (10.3).
    • Goofs
Just because one of the members of Hudson University's disciplinary committee is a psychiatrist doesn't make the student's testimony privileged. Doctor-patient privilege only applies when a person is talking to their doctor in private, a person talking to their doctor, or any doctor, with multiple other persons present in the room nullifies any expectation of privacy.

Executive A.D.A. Sonya Paxton: You mean how did I escape the drunk tank?

Elliot Stabler: No. She means "why us?"
