The film was made in 2000 in San Diego County and was shown at the Sunstone Symposia in 2001 and again in 2002 under the name "Missionary Position". It's official theatrical premiere was on April 18, 2003 at the Brewvies Cinema in Salt Lake City, Utah. It ran for three consecutive weekends. It was received well by the paying public but raised significant ire within the Mormon Church leadership which may have contributed to the films short run in theaters.
