Operation Shmenti Capelli (2011)
Those in power have their own laws.
ItÂ’s impossible to stay out of the game. If you donÂ’t get in, youÂ’ll get involved against your will. Those in power make plans. The more influential they are, the more daring and clever their actions.
A mysterious perpetrator executes a monstrous crime whose elements follow a relentless logic: hostages, ransom, gunfire and explosions. Many are killed. But when all this is over, it becomes obvious that the events have created a complex labyrinth, in which the threads leading to the truth are gradually untangled.
“Operation Taradiddle” is a political satire laden with the spirit of Chaplin’s movies — comical yet simultaneously sad. It is a dynamic dark comedy showing what happened in Bulgaria in the 20 years after the fall of communism. This is a film about the new times and their sinister crimes. It tells the story of an ordinary man, an unemployed math teacher, who is accidentally involved in the big game of greed, politics and corruption. An intriguing tale about the secrets, which those in power cannot hide forever.
This film’s distinctive style is sprinkled with colorful ethnic details present only in Kosturica’s movies and creating an atmosphere of absurdity characteristic of films like “Barton Fink” and “Brazil”.

    I liked it

I should say that I didn't expect much from this movie before watching it. Maybe that is exactly the reason it didn't disappoint me. At the beginning of it I couldn't completely get the storyline, but at the middle everything just felt to its place. What makes this movie so fresh are its metaphors about the everyday life in Bulgaria - all the things we know and see daily, but they somehow don't make it to the media and society chooses to ignore them. What I didn't like is the first scene of the movie (it seemed a bit politically charged). It's been a long time since I've watched a movie that really did make me laugh. This one did. It has this strange, but typical for the Balkan region, sense of humor - partially bitter, partially foolish and surreal. Not that it's my favorite movie and I shall watch it over and over again, neither it gave me that strong of an impression. But it's better than I expected, and it seems like the movie industry in Bulgaria grows stronger. Soon it will deliver a product that is truly watchable and can be distributed worldwide and hypothetically make some real profit.

    Man on Fire

Absolutely brilliant movie, regards to the cast and crew and directing for those amusement or fun I played in real life many time. Are we alone in the universe? Will it be Kingdom America? And How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Conquest of Paradise? An eternal communism mirror or media plan? Step back in. Summer trips may have just ended, luckily believe it or not, it's already time to prepare for holiday travel. Aplenty and new ways in this life with a stylish new emerald coast. Across directing, and the script outside of winter months. An epic journey, set thousands of years before the events of magnificent years of transition, follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil. An internal succession war at the height of it's power. Operation Shmenti Capelli had a lot to prove, thanks to a lukewarm ending also the fact that it's based on a book that isn't a traditional story but more of a history book of a fictional royal family. Confidentional and inspirational is those masterpiece Operation Shmenti Capelli. Ruled by the people this city is now a favourite of the history and loved by the couples thanks to unique array of places to stay.

    Nice and true movie

It is a very good movie. Not worse than some of Tarantino's films. But this is a movie in Bulgarian, not in American style, so you need to look for other things, like: critique to the system - the past and the new coming one, the passage between the both. The old one is the communism, the new one is the capitalism. Both are destructive in moral, economical and in every human sense. Bothe systems create different criminals, the first especially political, the second creates gangsters and corruption on every level. Tha passage between the both systems is even worse than that, because it allows both types of criminals to coexist and be in cooperation.

In between all of this, the common man is struggling for survival and some decent living. You need not be a psychic to foresee that this would be a mission impossible.

    Brilliant

    Extremely intriguing film.

    I"m pleasantly surprised.

I was expecting a different dynamic in the style of retro Bulgarian cinema... Especially at the beginning of the film it gives exactly this vibe.

But Vargala surprised me. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time, especially at this type of movie.

It's fun even though you can guess exactly how the plot will unfold. There aren't many surprises.

A classic plot, but with perfect execution.

This is one of the best Balkan comedies I've seen recently.

    Bravo!

I didn't expect it to be anything impressive.

It was worth the extremely long filming time.

    Boring and predictable!

As one of the modern Bulgarian movies this one is exactly what's wrong with the movie makers in Bugaria. The plot is painfully boring and predictable, the directing is nothing new, most of the cast are old and not so good. All in all it's a terrible movie. It always bugs me, when I watch contemporary Bulgarian movies, how crap they are. Sometimes the movie makers try to use the Hollywood formulas and clichés but it's often a complete failure. And this movie is a prime example of that. I won't give you any spoilers because I can recount the whole story in a sentence but suffice it to say that it's not very interesting. Some people recommended this to me so I was hoping to see something at least decent but it's not. You're are better off watching "Pod prikritie". Cheers!
