Lukos

A great short film - a cinematographer's Halloween tale. Beautifully shot. Carefully composed images invite us into the small town setting and set the overall tone of the film. The acting is fantastic, hitting all the right notes in a subtle script. Much more of the story is told via expression of the actors than by the spoken word. Casey Dillard stands out for hitting the perfect emotional notes that carry the heart of the story. Cameron Spann adds subtlety to a role that could have been stereotype. The Music is haunting and matches the story very well. Winner of Juried prize for Best in Show at the Rocket City Short Film Festival here in Huntsville, AL. Break out film for a great team, especially writer/director Michael William. Look for whatever they do next.

Well made and insightful, Lukos is not written from the typical standpoint of slash and kill, I'm sorry didn't mean to do that narrative from the main character. Lukos shows a touching battle within the "monster" itself (no not Twilight type stuff, real thoughtful deep thinking how would you deal if it was YOU). There is a wonderful relationship development between the main character and a local woman, there is a on the edge of your seat fifteen minutes and the use of the camera angels to show the anger and rage is amazing. At the screening in Tupelo, Mississippi the first question out of my mouth was not to the film makers or cast regarding their use of angle or inner silent monologue it was "When can I buy it?" I wanted to see it again-to answer my own questions. It is a great movie by a great film maker and writer who I am sure will go far. I am so glad I saw it at OFF.
