Most of the people on this show were also on other cooking shows. Alton Brown had a Blue's Clues type cooking show that was kind of fun; Andrew Zimmern had Bizarre Foods; Kristen Kish has her "Fast Foodies"... All of them are personable and fun to watch.
The cooking is shown at a higher level, not recipes but concepts. And, the competition never gets any more heated than "friendly". Yeah, it has its flaws but overall it is a fun watch.
But, I may be a bit prejudiced after seeing the great Danny Trejo as one of the guest judges...

When Iron Chef started in Japan, back in the 1990's, it was more of a "David and Goliath" type of show. But just as all long running shows need to evolve to be relevant, Iron Chef has evolved to more of an "Achilles vs. Hector" or "Batman vs. Superman!' Think of it this way, we don't want a Super Bowl of the worst in the NFL vs. The best in the NFL. All of the episodes were fun and exciting to watch. I think the Live Sturgeon episode was the best, it was very intense and a close score. And the Finale was also entertaining! Disclosure: I HATE to cook, but I do love good food. And every dish that I saw looked absolutely stunning. I would change one thing, never have a guest judge who is still learning how to make toast. Make the guest judge as least someone who knows how much work/experience/art goes into the dishes that were made. I hope Netflix makes a Season 2 of this new take on Iron Chef.
What is with so many American shows that they can't use a camera without purposefully bouncing it around to create tension?
All it does is give me a headache and make it impossible to watch.
Getting past that to actually enjoy the rest of the show was virtually impossible.

I don't like the addition of Kristen, should be Alton as the host. Mark Dascascos is more annoying if that's possible. Did anyone pick up on the new buzz word of Unctuous, totally used in the wrong context, means excessively or ingratiatingly flattering; oily. I've seen a few episodes, it's OK, not like ICA.
I like the show, it's versatile, you learn about ingredients and meals of the whole world. That being said, Mark Dacascos is hardly bearable. I need to skip his parts cringing at his behaviour. No idea who thought that would be funny.
Otherwise: the judges know their stuff, the music is a little exhausting, the contestants are interesting and the food seems delicious.
