Exclusive: Brooke Shields is ready to revisit the setting that made her a global star in the 1980 movie The Blue Lagoon, with SNL alum David Spade joining her for the ride. Fox is developing Almost Paradise, a multi-camera sitcom from comedy veteran Danny Zuker (Modern Family) and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.

Written by Zuker, Almost Paradise is described as The Blue Lagoon meets Gilligan’s Island. Its logline reads: Just your everyday, normal married couple facing all the everyday, normal challenges of being stranded on a desert Island for decades. Think Blue Lagoon, the family sitcom.

The idea originated from a general meeting between Shields and Kaplan. The two then approached Spade, on whose NBC sitcom Just Shoot Me! Shields had guest starred and Zuker had worked for two seasons as consulting producer/co-executive producer.

Rob Lowe discussed Hollywood’s changing attitude toward sex scenes during a conversation with Sex and the City actress Kristin Davis on his Literally! podcast. He recalled an unwritten industry practice known as the “page 73 rule,” which once signaled the expected placement of a sex scene in a script.

“Back in the day, the sex scene was always on page 73,” Lowe said. “You got a script and were like, ‘Am I going to be naked in this?’ And you didn’t have to read the whole script. Brooke Shields revealed that “The Blue Lagoon” director Randal Kleiser reached out to her after documentary “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields” aired on Hulu.

The two-part doc, which debuted at 2023 Sundance, examines the early sexualization of Shields in part during Kleiser’s 1980 film when she was 14 years old. Kleiser, who also produced the movie, allegedly called Shields following the doc premiere.

Brooke Shields is opening up about surviving sexual assault in her early 20s.

The supermodel and actress revealed she was raped by a studio executive soon after graduating from Princeton University. “It’s taken me a long time to process it,” Shields told People magazine in a new cover story. “I’m more angry now than I was able to be then. If you’re afraid, you’re rightfully so. They are scary situations. They don’t have to be violent to be scary.”

Shields, who was grappling with the “lowest point of my career” at the time, had dinner with a Hollywood executive who later invited her to his hotel room to call a cab from the landline. She was then assaulted.

“I thought I was getting a movie, a job,” Shields said. “I didn’t fight. I just froze.”
