Must-watch western show for Jason Momoa and American Primeval fans (Photo Credit – Netflix)
Netflix’s American Primeval wasted no time climbing the charts, racking up an impressive 14.3 million views shortly after its release, per the Irish Star. Eric Newman, the mastermind behind the series, has yet another success under his belt, marking his sixth major hit on the platform. The gritty Western miniseries dominated Netflix’s viewership from January 13 to 19, 2025, proving that audiences still crave the raw, untamed narratives of America’s past.
A New Gritty Tale of Power & Revenge
Even though a second season remains uncertain for American Primeval, director Peter Berg has hinted that nothing is off the table. For now, fans eager for more frontier action are turning their attention to another gripping period drama named Frontier. This historical thriller, which first hit screens in 2016, shares the same blood-soaked intensity and exploration of North American colonization that made American Primeval so compelling.

There’s always that movie in August that becomes the definitive title to see for the rest of summer, i.e. Guardians of the Galaxy, Free Guy, etc. and this year, it’s New Line’s Weapons.
Yesterday, the Zach Cregger movie, did $5.2M which is the most a horror film has ever done on a Monday in August, besting Sixth Sense‘s $4.35M and New Line’s Annabelle: Creation‘s $3.6M. Weapons is also arguably the best opening for a horror movie in August with $43.5M.
While $5.2M might seem small from a weekday point of a view especially during the summer, it’s very notable for a horror movie. Weapons’ Monday, though under Sinners’ $7.8M first Monday, is higher than the first Mondays of R-rated Final Destination: Bloodlines ($5M), Get Out ($4.1M), 28 Years Later ($2.8M...

Aubrey Plaza’s call sheet is about to get a lot longer, as she’s come on to produce and star in “The Heidi Fleiss Story.”
Plaza will portray the infamous “Hollywood madam” Heidi Fleiss, busted in the early ‘90s for what was said to be the world’s largest high-end prostitution ring – which implicated Hollywood, politicians and other power figures.
The project marks the directorial debut of Leah Rachel (creator of Netflix’s “Chambers”). The film hails from Pinky Promise, Jessamine Burgum and Kara Durrett’s production company.
Heatseeking actress and Gen Z icon Rachel Sennott co-wrote the script with Rachel and Travis Jackson. Their take on the tabloid sensation follows Fleiss before trial, scrambling around Los Angeles trying to blackmail and leverage various connections to get the case dropped, with the help of an aspiring young writer named Jaclyn.
Production is set for Los Angeles in the coming months.

In just two days, comedy icons Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson are about to join forces for a heist they never asked for in The Pickup. The new action comedy casts the pair of Saturday Night Live alumni as mismatched armored truck drivers who, during what should have been a routine, if lengthy, job, are ambushed and forced into a high-risk scheme orchestrated by the criminal mastermind Zoe, played by Nope star Keke Palmer. Before their very bad day spins out of control on streaming, though, Collider is partnering with Prime Video to share an exclusive sneak peek introducing the three main characters and their clashing personalities. It serves as a behind-the-scenes preview of how the chaotic film from director Tim Story came together.
After a brief scene showcasing the odd-couple at the center of The Pickup, Murphy teases his character, Russell, the no-nonsense married man who's about to have...

Produced by Oscar-winner Graham King (The Departed), the film is directed by Antoine Fuqua (The Equalizer).
According to a press release shared by Lionsgate, Michael is now expected to arrive in theaters worldwide in IMAX on April 24, 2026, offering an intimate look at the life and legacy of Jackson. Lionsgate and Universal’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael is officially moving to Friday, April 24, and that’s a global theatrical release.
At the same time, we hear that a second movie about Jackson remains in development.
We told you at CinemaCon there were distribution plans afoot for the feature directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King. Michael also will get a release on Imax screens.
The delay with Michael has been twofold, one being its length — there was a first cut in excess of 3½ hours. There also have been reports that the initial cut of the movie made references to 13-year old Jordan Chandler, who accused Jackson of molestation and who the pop singer settled with for $20M in 1994 with no admission of guilt. The Jackson estate explicitly wanted nothing about Chandler in the film, which led to more shoots on the production. Three-time Oscar nominee John Logan penned the screenplay.

Lionsgate and Universal have set “Michael,” Antoine Fuqua’s biopic about Michael Jackson, for release on April 24, 2026.
Lionsgate will handle domestic distribution for the film while Universal handles overseas with the exception of Japan, where it will be distributed by Kino Films. “Michael” will have global Imax support.
While the release date is technically a weekend before the usual start of the summer box office season on the first weekend of May, “Michael” will be the de facto kickoff tentpole release for theaters to start the critical theatrical period. Historically, a Marvel Studios film has been set for release on the first weekend of May, but that won’t be the case in 2026 and 2027 as Disney has moved “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” out of that slot and into the holiday season.

Legendary Entertainment is eyeing a possible acquisition of Lionsgate Studios, TheWrap has learned.
Lionsgate, whose franchises include “The Hunger Games” and “John Wick,” split with Starz earlier this year. As it stands, the companies are potentially looking to work together on upcoming movies.
A spokesperson for both Lionsgate and Legendary declined to comment.
Lionsgate Studios, which encompasses its Motion Picture Group and the Television Studio segment as well as the company’s 20,000-plus title film and television library, began trading last year on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol Lion.
Last year, Legendary grossed over $20 billion at the global box office and experienced its most profitable year to date. Together, “Dune: Part Two” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” earned over $1.28 billion at the global box office, with the latter becoming the highest-grossing film in the multi-billion-dollar franchise.

Ryan Reynolds surely knows how to stay in the limelight, and if the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni drama wasn’t enough, recently, a viral photo of him had fans doing a double-take. But before the internet could spiral into scandal mode, the full story behind the image cleared the air – and reminded everyone that not everything is as it seems.

Jason Momoa might seem like a wrestler, but he isn't. The problem is he has the size of Dewayne Johnson and John Cena, and might seem like one of the actors of that ilk, but he is much more experienced as an actor than those former wrestlers could ever be.
Still, it's easy to only see Momoa as an action star and nothing else. He is capable of drama, but lately has been full-bore into comedy. He's good at it. Opposite Jack Black in Minecraft, Momoa is the kind of goof that is needed for the role.
Andy Samberg has always been the goof we needed in most of his comedic roles, but the trick is, like Adam Sandler, he is smarter than he might seem. That translates on the screen even when we laugh at the silly things he might do.

Netflix is gearing up for a wild new action comedy that brings together Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg for the first time. The global streaming platform came out on top after a heated bidding race that saw several studios and streamers competing, and now they have secured the untitled project which will be set in Momoa’s home turf, Hawaii.
The Movie Details
Even though the storyline remains locked up tight, what’s known till now is enough to turn heads. According to Deadline, the movie pairs two powerhouses from completely different lanes with Momoa bringing his larger-than-life action presence, and Samberg, with his comedic style. Vince Vaughn has shared an update regarding the long-awaited sequel to his 2004 sports comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. In the film, the actor played Peter Lafleur, a laid-back gym owner who enters a dodgeball competition in hopes of saving his business from foreclosure.
In April 2023, it was reported that a Dodgeball sequel was in early development at 20th Century Studios with Vaughn attached to reprise his role. Animaniacs revival writer Jordan VanDina was tapped to pen the script. Since then, fans haven’t received any updates about the project. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Vaughn confirmed that although they already have a "pretty good" idea for the story, nothing has really been set yet.
However, when the opportunity arrives, he will definitely be open to returning to the franchise. "There's always talk of these," Vaughn said. "Dodgeball, actually, there's an idea that's pretty good, but nothing for sure.

How quickly the fortunes of a Hollywood studio head can change.
Just weeks after the word around town was that their jobs were in jeopardy, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group studio heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy have passed a key test of their film strategy and will likely live to fight another day thanks to the critical and commercial success of Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” and the birth of a new franchise with Jared Hess’ “A Minecraft Movie,” according to multiple insiders who spoke with TheWrap.
Coogler’s vampire horror film’s $48 million domestic opening weekend and extremely rare A CinemaScore — the first for a horror film in 39 years — has strengthened the pair’s position following earlier misfires like Todd Phillips’ “Joker: Folie à Deux” and Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17.”
Even more impressive: Warner Bros. achieved what no studio has accomplished since 2009, with two films – “Sinners” and...

Jason Momoa is a man who you can’t deny has built an impressive career in the last decade. Currently riding the square-shaped wave of Minecraft success, Momoa is taking on a very different project with his upcoming Apple TV+ series, Chief of War, and according to the humble and contained actor, it is going to be “bigger than Game of Thrones.”
While Momoa is someone you are willing to believe when he says you are going to enjoy something – and not at all because we are slightly intimidated by his impressive physique – Apple TV+ has reportedly been suffering some heavy losses in recent years thanks to the high production values of its original content, but dwindling subscriber numbers compared to other streamers. So, while the quality of Chief of War may not be in question, the number of people who will actually see it is.

Vince Vaughn is cooking up a plan to share other families’ cherished recipes in the trailer for Netflix’s movie Nonnas.
Stephen Chbosky directed the fact-based comedy feature that begins streaming May 9. Rounding out the cast are Linda Cardellini, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro, Joe Manganiello and Campbell Scott.
Nonnas centers on Joe Scaravella, who decides to alter his life path by starting an Italian restaurant that hires Italian grandmothers, aka “nonnas,” as the chefs. The story is based on the real-life Scaravella, the owner of Staten Island eatery Enoteca Maria and author of the 2015 cookbook Nonna’s House.
“I want them to make the dishes that they were passed on from their family,” Vaughn says in the trailer. “I want to share it with everybody.”
Later in the footage, Sarandon tells Vaughn, “The only thing that you’re gonna regret are the moments that you did not take.

Jason Momoa has done it all. His breakout role came with the role of Khal Drogo in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones, which propelled him into superstardom, with several action, comedy, and superhero roles to follow, including the leading role as Aquaman.
Momoa has proven to be a bankable movie star, and his roles have led to over $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office (via The Numbers). His projects haven't always been a hit with the critics, but he has always drawn people to the theaters. With the surprising success of the critically panned A Minecraft Movie, Jason Momoa continued an exciting Rotten Tomatoes trend for the audience scores.
Following the release of A Minecraft Movie, the video game adaptation continued Momoa's positive trend for audience scores that has been going on since 2021. Since then, all of Momoa's titles have been a hit with the audience, although they...

It was miraculous, really.
Imagine it – a 10:30 a.m. screening on an overcast Wednesday, charcoal-colored clouds dappling the sky. A handful of film journalists had been summoned to an Imax-equipped multiplex in the valley to watch Ryan Coogler’s new period vampire movie “Sinners.” And throughout the movie, which runs more than two hours (including a pair of post-credits scenes), there were multiple applause breaks. It was like being at a new “Avengers” movie, only it was an R-rated, blood-splattered original thriller set in the Jim Crow-era South and featuring a pair of performances by Coogler regular Michael B. Jordan as morally nebulous twins who return to their backwoods hometown to open a rollicking juke joint.
The unexpectedly uproarious “Sinners” screening cemented the fact that Warner Bros. is unleashing its boldest slate in years, as studio heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy finally see the fruits of their...

DC fans everywhere are eager to see the first look at Jason Momoa as Lobo, but we're going to have to wait a while. After playing Aquaman in the Dceu, brought to life by Zack Snyder, Momoa will finally have the chance to suit up as his dream character in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow opposite Milly Alcock’s Kryptonian hero. Momoa was tapped to the role of Lobo, and although the 2026 tentpole is well over halfway through filming, there has still been no official look at Momoa’s Lobo released to the public. During a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub to promote his upcoming Minecraft movie with Jack Black, Momoa played coy and declined to share a photo of himself as Lobo that is on his phone, but not for lack of desire:
"I wish I could show you the picture on my phone right now."
"He'd have to kill you,...

Warner Bros. seemingly has been going through damage control for the last few years. While the more notorious stories about the studio’s shake-ups come from their DC films department, David Zaslav’s reign has also included the way their streaming service alters its library and information, as well as the shockingly shortened theatrical release windows given to newly premiered films. As the company attempts to recover from the reported $100 million loss on films like Mickey 17, according to Deadline, the Water Tower studio is shuffling their schedule as a strategy to keep them in the black and out of the red.
A lot of the schedule changes were affected by the movies that the studio had already booked for IMAX theaters. Premium screens are coveted for big movie releases and Warners was careful not to lose the precious commodity. The company would also move potential tentpoles up into this...

Warner Bros has just made some razor-sharp release-date changes ahead of CinemaCon, ones that could potentially keep the Burbank, CA lot more toward the black this year than in the red.
In a year when there were four $100 million-plus auteur-driven movies — one of which, Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, recently misfired — Warners Bros distribution has taken the pressure off the studios’ schedule in that regard, and even placed a potential tentpole into the year: Zach Cregger’s anticipated genre movie Weapons on August 8.
Cregger’s next movie after Barbarian was previously scheduled for MLK weekend 2026, on January 16. What kept Warners from moving the pic starring Josh Brolin, Julia Garner and Alden Ehrenreich was that the theatrical release was tied to Imax screens — can’t give up those auditoriums. In fact, what made all of the release-date changes feasible for Warners was that each was tied to Imax bookings. As...

It is part of the overall film and TV deal Levy and his Not a Real Production Company have at the global streamer that included his film directorial debut Good Grief, which he also wrote, produced and starred in alongside Ruth Negga and Himesh Patel.
Levy is best known for his work as co-creator, writer, director and star of Schitt’s Creek, which swept the 2020 Emmys for its final season with nine wins, seven during the main telecast. Levy took home four that night,...
