Sean Combs may be awaiting sentencing on federal charges, but according to recent news, his music career isn’t waiting for parole. In a surprising new update in the Diddy case, the rapper is allegedly working on new music from behind bars, and he’s teaming up with none other than Kanye West, aka Ye. Who, by the way, has been a constant supporter of the artist in an industry where most people have turned away from him.
Industry insiders and leaked audio snippets suggest that Diddy and West are already deep into the creative process. One such leak, reportedly recorded via jailhouse call, hints that a track or even an entire joint project could be underway. While it might sound outlandish, jail-recorded music isn’t a first. Tory Lanez did it recently, with his prison album, Peterson. And with celebrities often granted more flexibility, it’s far from impossible.

By day, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins wears out shoe leather at the White House, trying to get the latest details on any number of eyebrow-raising policies coming out of the Trump administration. By night, she holds forth from a shiny Washington studio, far from the fray.
CNN hopes to inject a little of the reporter’s daytime routine into her nighttime one.
Collins is expected to leave her studio perch and host her 9 p.m. program, “The Source,” from the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed outlet’s Washington, D.C., newsroom, a move that could take place as soon as Tuesday evening. The hope is that the change in setting will give viewers a more kinetic presentation that reminds them of Collins’ unique place at the network — it is rare for someone assigned to a busy news beat, in this case that of chief White House correspondent, to also have responsibility...

The fierce ratings battle continues across the news networks, and CNN may have found themselves a new secret weapon when it comes to viewership, especially in the coveted adults 25-54 demographic. Anderson Cooper has long been the face of CNN, yet he’s not always the top ratings-grabber. For example, last Thursday (March 13), Anderson Cooper 360 finished third for the evening in total viewers, with 707,000. This was behind Erin Burnett OutFront, which led the night for CNN with 714,000 viewers. More surprisingly, perhaps, is the success of the still relatively new NewsNight with Abby Phillip, which finished second for the night in total viewers with 710,000 in the 10 pm Et hour. Phillip began anchoring the round table discussion show in October 2023, and the show continues to shine for CNN. On Thursday, Phillip’s show topped the key demo for CNN with 153,000, ahead of Cooper at 141,000 and The Source with Kaitlan Collins at...

A day after interviewing Republican representative Dan Crenshaw, Kaitlan Collins invited another guest on “The Source” to discuss Donald Trump’s recent executive order banning transgender troops from serving openly in the military.
“I have been at the pinnacle of naval aviation. I’m proof standing here that we’re qualified to serve,” Navy Commander Emily Shilling told Collins. Over her 19-and-a-half years of service, Shilling has completed two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan as a pilot and has seen 60 combat missions. She is also the president of Sparta, an advocacy group for transgender troops.
Shilling was one of the first naval aviators to regain her flight clearance post-transition. She estimated that her transition kept her out of action for “about a month,” a period of time she likened to a minor knee surgery. She also noted that some people who transition never even take down time. Shilling...

Kaitlan Collins has been named CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent, but will also continue to anchor The Source.
Calling her new role “unprecedented,” CNN announced Collins will lead the news net’s reporting on President-elect Donald Trump’s second administration across digital, TV and streaming platforms.
She will also continue with her 9pm spot on The Source with Kaitlan Collins, but will relocate from New York to Washington, D.C. for her White House duties. She landed that role last year, making her one of the most important anchors at CNN in the process.
“Kaitlan Collins is the perfect person to lead coverage of the new Trump White House, even as she continues to anchor her key primetime show The Source,” said CNN Chairman and CEO Mark Thompson. “Kaitlan is a political journalist of real depth and tenacity who already boasts an amazing record of scoops and exclusive interviews.

Hip-hop–it’s the genre where the beats are loud and the chains are heavy. But what most people don’t see behind the flashy lights and designer outfits is the darker side of the industry. And when you talk about fear, power, and controversy, one name looms larger than life—Suge Knight. The man who once controlled the West Coast and founded Death Row Records is still a figure who sends chills down the spine of even the boldest in the game. But why? Why were so many stars so terrified of Suge Knight?

Even behind bars, his voice still rings loud and clear through the halls of hip-hop’s history. Currently in jail, Knight hasn’t faded into obscurity. In fact, he seems to have found a second wind, dropping bombs in the form of interviews that keep everyone on edge.

With the release of the trailer of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise reminded fans of the legacy of Ethan Hunt. The film is touted to be the final entry in the franchise, although there has been no confirmation of this. With his signature running and death-defying stunts, Hunt is ready to accept the impossible yet again.
The film might also mark the final appearance in the franchise from another actor who has been in every Mission Impossible film. In fact, he is the only one to be in every film apart from Cruise. Ving Rhames seems to have a bigger role as Luther Stickell in the eighth film of the franchise, as hinted in the trailer.

With an early career spent lifting up hip-hop voices at The Source magazine, filmmaker Dream Hampton was poised to share glimpses of rap’s formative years. Her documentary It Was All A Dream excavates Hampton’s trove of archival footage from New York and beyond in the early ’90s.
Figures like Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre were just starting to make names for themselves during this era. Through interviews and candid scenes, we see these soon-to-be legends in their rawest form—freestyling, joking around, and dreaming big.
Hampton’s documentary acts as a time capsule, preserving the authentic spirit of a music industry not yet hardened by commercial demands. She knew even then that hip hop deserved chroniclers to celebrate its nuances beyond surface concerns. It Was All A Dream reminds us that with singular artists like Hampton keeping watch, rap’s history remains in good hands.

Amazon Prime Video has set the launch date and unveiled art for Mélanie Laurent’s upcoming heist romance “Freedom” (“Libre”) starring Lucas Bravo (“Emily in Paris”).

Philadelphia radio station Wurd has cut ties with a host who revealed President Joe Biden‘s team provided her pre-approved questions before a recent interview.
Wurd president and CEO Sara M. Lomax announced that the station “mutually agreed to part ways” with Andrea Lawful-Sanders in a statement on Sunday after Lomax admitted that the “questions were sent to me for approval.”
Lomax noted that the interview “was arranged and negotiated independently” by Lawful-Sanders “without knowledge, consultation or collaboration with Wurd management.” Using the campaign’s pre-approved questions “violates our practice of remaining an independent media outlet accountable to our listeners,” said Lomax.
“Wurd Radio remains an independent voice that our audience can trust will hold elected officials accountable,” she said. “As Pennsylvania’s only independent Black-owned talk radio station, Wurd Radio has cultivated that trust with our audience over our 20-year history. This is something we take very seriously. Agreeing...

Early in the documentary It Was All a Dream, the veteran music journalist and filmmaker dream hampton (stylized in lowercase as an homage to the scholar bell hooks), moseys around the offices of The Source magazine, filming her colleagues. The hip hop periodical was, in its early days, a wellspring for understanding the nascent genre. “I learned to be a fan and a critic of some of the greatest artists of a generation,” hampton says in a voiceover that accompanies brief scenes of debate among writers and interviews with editors. The Detroit native moved to New York in 1990 to study film at NYU and a few months later, she joined The Source’s staff.
Premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, It Was All a Dream chronicles hampton’s early years in New York. The Surviving R. Kelly (2019) executive producer culls footage from her personal archives (shot between 1993 and 1995) and sets...

Inside Out 2 explored how an adolescent Riley would deal with new emotions during puberty. Screenwriter Meg LeFauve confirmed Riley has teenage crushes but it was best not to focus on them as the central plot of the movie.
The overwhelming reception for Inside Out 2 confirms it's a necessary sequel to the 2015 original. The emotions that have so far appeared tease potential sequels and the debut of more newcomers like Love, Contempt, and Regret (among many others). The film's pacing reveals screenwriter Meg LeFauve's brevity in handling the plot, which largely focused on Riley's struggle to belong in a group of almost-grown-ups. LeFauve told IndieWire that they decided to focus on this arc and veered away from Riley's crushes. She said that would only divert from the message of the film and sidetrack the story.

Jimmy Kimmel opened Wednesday night’s (June 19) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! by honoring Juneteenth before focusing on recent comments from author and Variety editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh about Donald Trump‘s cognitive decline. Setoodeh is set to release a new book in August, which is all about Trump’s reality television background, specifically his time as host of The Apprentice on NBC. In researching the book, Setoodeh conducted six interviews with the former president since May 2021. On Tuesday (June 18), Setoodeh appeared on CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins and was asked about what Trump was like during these interviews. The journalist described Trump as “meandering and confusing,” adding, “there were some cognitive questions about where he was and what he was thinking, and he would—from time to time—become confused.” Kimmel focused on this, starting with Setoodeh’s claims that Trump couldn’t remember who he was, despite...

dream hampton has been holding hip-hop to task for the misogyny it perpetuates since she was a college student writing for seminal rap magazine The Source in the early 1990s. When dream hampton lived around the corner from the Notorious B.I.G in Brooklyn, when Gang Starr’s Guru would cut her hair, when she found herself in the epicenter of hip-hop’s modern genesis, she was a film student at New York University who just couldn’t afford to live in their Manhattan dorms. Yet, from there, the 19-year-old would become one of the foremothers of feminist critique in the genre as she split her time between leading an activist group that helped temper New York’s racist broken-windows policing,...

When he won the Un Certain Regard jury’s joint Best Actor prize for Harka in 2022, Adam Bessa wasn’t onstage to accept it. He’d figured he didn’t stand a chance, so he’d gone fishing in Marseille instead and was struggling with a seabass when the call came. He laughs. “‘You have to come back,’ they said. I was like, ‘Nah. I’m in the middle of nowhere right now, I can’t.’ So, I made a little video instead.”
Adam Bessa
This year, Bessa is back in Cannes with Critics’ Week opener Ghost Trail by Jonathan Millet. “It’s the story of a Syrian intellectual who was jailed during the civil war in Syria and now he’s chasing the man who tortured him. It’s based on a true story, about these guys who escaped from prison and tried to create a secret militia, a secret spy group.

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) said he would vote for President Joe Biden “in a heartbeat” if he were to face former President Donald Trump in a rematch this year.
As one of Trump’s most vocal conservative critics, Kinzinger’s decision underscored his commitment to principles that transcend party lines, even as he remains a member of the Republican Party despite Trump’s influence.
Kinzinger had previously expressed support for former Gov. Chris Christie (R-New Jersey) in the Republican primary and commended him for his honesty and commitment to truth. However, as Christie has suspended his campaign, Kinzinger’s allegiance has shifted.
In an appearance on The Source, Kinzinger was asked about his plans for the future.
Kinzinger responded, “Nothing.” He continued, “Look, I think it’s highly likely that it’s gonna be Biden against Trump. And in that case, there is no question who I would support.

Dark Sky Films offers a new take on a new but common fear in Travis Greene's new film based on a script written by Jonathan Buchanan, 8 Found Dead. Ahead of the Sept. 8 release on VOD, the official trailer has surfaced online offering a new horror adventure that capitalizes on the fear of strangers and spaces brought about by the gig market. We never really know who's driving an Uber or, in this case, who is hosting an Airbnb.
Barbarian became one of the most acclaimed horror films of the year, presenting a story filled with dark and unexpected turns, but began with a haunting first chapter centered around an Airbnb rental. Surprisingly, the movie took a different turn, but it seems like what the audience didn't get to see in Barbarian could be the main plot of 8 Found Dead. Author Raquel Cepeda once said, "The role of hip-hop journalists is to document hip-hop with integrity." Fifty years ago, that esteemed role did not yet exist, for the culture was too young and too niche to find its way into literary archives and journalistic coverage. But seeing how far hip-hop has come, times have changed, and so have the rules for those documenting it - namely, us women.
The role of women hip-hop journalists, unfortunately by today's standards, is not just to report on the culture earnestly. Thanks to sexism, patriarchy, and misogyny, we don't get that luxury. Our skills and knowledge are always under a microscope in this "boys' club," as we've oftentimes been seen as the ill-informed who stumbled our way into this space and not as the revered who helped build, refine, and make it better; as those who've made it safer to tell ours and others' stories.

Jesse Watters’ debut as the permanent occupant of Fox News’ 8 p.m. hour gave the network a boost in the timeslot, versus the series of replacement hosts who have filled the time period since the cancellation of Tucker Carlson’s show.
Jesse Watters Primetime averaged 2.47 million viewers during the hour. That compares to the 1.66 million that Fox News Tonight averaged in June.
Still, Watters’ audience was less than the 3.1 million viewers that Carlson averaged in the time period last July. The network is obviously aiming for Watters’ audience to grow, as Carlson’s did after he replaced Bill O’Reilly in 2017.
Watters on Monday beat cable news rivals, including an MSNBC Joe Scarborough special, which averaged 1.29 million, and CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, which averaged 686,000.
In the adults 25-54 demo, Watters averaged 161,000 viewers, compared to 139,000 for MSNBC’s Scarborough and 120,000 for CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360.

After Sen. Tommy Tuberville said Monday night on CNN that white nationalism is not racist and that “most white people” in the military actually are white nationalists, the hosts of “The View” were stunned on Tuesday morning.
For host Sunny Hostin, Tuberville’s words make him nothing more than “an example” of his state’s “very, very low education rate.”
Tuberville’s comments came as part of the first episode of Kaitlan Collins’ new CNN primetime show “The Source,” when she pushed him on comments he made in May on a radio show where he refused to condemn white nationalists. When she asked him outright whether white nationalists shouldn’t be serving in the military, Tuberville said, “If people think that a white nationalist is a racist, I agree with that, I agree they shouldn’t.”
When Collins gave Tuberville the definition of a white nationalist, informing that all white nationalists are racists,...

Kaitlan Collins will officially launch as the network’s 9 p.m. Et host on Monday with a one-hour program named The Source.
Collins already has been anchoring CNN Primetime, the show that has filled the time period since Chris Cuomo was fired in December, 2021. Collins, the former chief White House correspondent and later co-host of CNN This Morning, was announced as the permanent host in May. The network kept those plans in place after the departure of Chris Licht as chairman and CEO. A leadership team is filling his position in the interim.
The show’s time slot is one of the most competitive in cable news, with Hannity on Fox News and The Rachel Maddow Show and Alex Wagner Tonight on MSNBC. CNN Primetime averaged 548,000 viewers in the most recent quarter, according to Nielsen.

CNN may have cleared its schedule of “Reliable Sources,” but it is making lots of room for “The Source.”
The new program, which will be based in New York and is slated to debut Monday, July 10, at 9 p.m. eastern, is a new hour built around up-and-coming anchor Kaitlan Collins, who has, in the space of just a few years, vaulted from White House correspondent to morning co-anchor to primetime personality. Collins has been leading CNN’s 9 p.m. hour over the past few weeks, but under a catch-all rubric of “CNN Primetime,” which also encompassed town-hall specials and deep-dive interviews with newsmakers led by others.
CNN announced the new program Tuesday night during its Fourth of July coverage and musical celebration, which typically attract a broader audience than its usual weekday schedule.
The name may raise eyebrows among CNN aficionados: The show’s title is similar to one assigned...

Many of us were stunned and filled with emotions when we learned that our beloved Daddy Yankee had announced his retirement. Tidal's Senior Director of Latin Global, Jesús Triviño, refers to him as "the unquestioned Goat of reggaeton" and even penned a piece about Daddy Yankee and his role in bringing the genre to the mainstream. Triviño doesn't take this retirement lightly. In fact, in many ways, it's a full circle moment for him. He's interviewed the Puerto Rican artists probably more times than he can count. And it's because of journalists like him that Yankee started receiving English-language press relatively early in his rise to fame.
While Yankee's career technically started in the mid-'90s, it was in 2004 that he began to gain recognition on a global scale and all thanks to his megahit song "Gasolina," off of his "Barrio Fino" album produced by Luny Tunes. But it...

John Reiss is moving from his role as executive producer of Meet the Press to NBC News Now’s seasonal, single-topic show Meet the Press Reports, and he will be succeeded at the Sunday broadcast by David P. Gelles, who is returning to the network after nearly a decade at CNN.
