    We needed this, badly

The only Mortal Kombat adaptation worthy of the first two arcade games. Long gone are those days where you could play with ultraviolence and dark humor, and pull off some clever social commentary in the process. Now everything needs to be watered down, rendered harmless with a good dose of fantasy, suitable for younger audience. Too bad the very same audiences won't be able to develop critical thinking. Ed Boon considers this a legitimate alternative MK universe but he thinks it somehow crossed the line as far as re-imagining goes, truth is the rest of the franchise is illegitimate. Over the years Scorpion, arguably the most prominent character of the series, went from mysterious hellbent ninja-wraith to meek family man. Isn't that crossing the line? I think the creators of the series themselves forgot about the 90's spirit and what made those arcade games so good, so memorable for us back then. Well, Rebirth managed to bring that spirit back in less than 8 minutes. Perfect cast too, i loved both Sonya Blade and Baraka.

You're retarded for thinking this was retarded.

Everyone who said this was retarded need to get their head out of the nerdy fantasy world of their's. This realistic based MK movie looks bad-ass. If you didn't see, Sub Zero's face was flashed for 1 sec during the video. And he looked bad-ass. Not some idiot walking around with dirty ice tanks... And Scorpion as a top assassin is also bad-ass, Legend of Zelda's Link's Hookshot, but with blood. They even gave Scopion his famous white eyes. So yeah, this movie could be really bad-ass, or bad. So everyone will have to wait and see in the future how the movie will come out. For now you don't need to being saying this was retarded you retard! I'm sure if you directed a movie based on a video game it would totally the best movie ever! So why don't you go and do just that?

I think the real approach revolutionized Batman and it will work here too!!

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight gave me chills with originality. You live the characters and feed off of the story. This trailer gives you that adrenaline rush and then some, cause WE ARE MORTAL KOMBAT FANS! A new meaning to the gaming series could help developers come up with a third person style RPG that Mortal Kombat Mythologies with Sub-Zero couldn't even come close to. A whole new era of Mortal Kombat series in gaming. How about Mortal Kombat Rebirth 2, where Liu Kang develops the art of Fire through Qigong? (Qigong masters can generate exponential amounts of heat from their hands and communicate to their ancestors on a "we speak to our elders" scale through meditation.) Gods and elders in the Buddhist religion are not fantasy! Do your research and see the new horizon for Mortal Kombat! MAKE IT HAPPEN Hollywood!!! I'm game!

Could be good from afar, but far from good...

I think this is what the MK franchise needs to generate some more interest in its direction for live-actions. MK Conquest was good but due to costs it only ran for one season. Interesting cast that's been assembled here (Michael Jai White, Ian Anthony Dale, Matt Mullins, Lateef Crowder), seems more believable than the first. MK Annihilation should just be forgotten about. MK 1 had cheesy SFX as well which didn't really add much to the fantasy aspect of it. And I'm sure the producers of this trailer aren't completely resigned to one direction as far as creative input is concerned. It could turn out that there is some whole underlying "Supernatural Element". What I would like to see and I don't know if anyone else feels the same, but this meets "Big Trouble in Little China". Shang Tsung could be this innocent enough "mob boss" who is actually like Lo Pan, a centuries old sorcerer on a quest to rejuvenate his immortality. This could work, we just have to get on here like we are now, and give these guys more ideas to work with.

Masterpiece.Mortal Kombat as it should been from start

At first I thought I was viewing a trailer of a new Mortal Kombat movie. I can't believe the quality of this short film. It's atmosphere is so dark and tense that remind me of a horror movie. I hope they ask this director for the next Mortal Kombat movie. The characters are excellent and they don't have super unnatural powers. They are real twisted people. A thriller background can be feel all around the film and puts Mortal Kombat franchise on another level. This is not for kids but hardcore fans of the first game are now grown up (at least 25 years old) so that's not a problem.

This is the closest to reality that Mortal Kombat can get.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon himself has noted that the film was "awesome," though he did note that it "probably crosses the line as far as re-imagining goes." He later stated that he thought it was "incredibly well done" and that it was "a legitimate alternate universe Mortal Kombat."

Jackson Briggs: [tosses a third folder across] We have reason to believe this man, Shang Tsung, may be behind each killer. The night before Johnny Cage was murdered, he told us about a tournament this Shang Tsung is planning, some underground death match between the world's top fighters. Serial killers, assassins... which brings me to you.

Jackson Briggs: Hanzo Hasachi. Before your incarceration, you were the top assassin of the Shirai Ryu, the most lethal ninja clan.
