The following statement is displayed during the closing credits (version shown here is the English subtitle translation as it appears onscreen): "The film is based on well-known elements from the biography of Jacques-Yves Cousteau which are public knowledge. The screenplay was freely inspired on "My Father, the Captain" by Jean-Michel Cousteau and "Capitaine de la Calypso" by Albert Falco and Yves Paccalet. Jerôme Salle carried out in-depth research and gathered numerous testimonies, namely from former Cousteau crew members, to write the screenplay and prepare the film. The film focuses on Cousteau's first family."

Goofs
There are two aerial shots - near start and finish of the film - of the Consolidated PBY Catalina flying-boat during which its reflection (or shadow, it's not clear which it's supposed to be as it looks so odd) is prominent on the water surface below. In both cases, the reflection/shadow is very obviously completely fake.

Beautiful movie with a bug.

Please forgive my language and spelling. I'm not native English. Very good movie. Absolutely recommendable. Beautiful pictures, great cast, great story, great directing. My childhood hero. I watched M. Cousteau's brilliant movies on television with great passion as a kid, I collected stickers from a gas station with animals of the sea, to put into collectable sticker books from M. Cousteau. The movie shows the man behind the M. Cousteau I knew from the movies, the hard work, the humanity, and as every human M. Cousteau was not perfect. M. Cousteau is brilliantly played by M. Lambert Wilson, brilliant! There's a bug though. The death of M. Philippe Cousteau is not reproduced correctly. I don't know why, but it irritated me and made me give the movie 7 and not 8 stars.
