Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness

I'm a big fan of documentaries, but it seems interesting or topical information always seems to be presented in a dry manner by those who already have a deep understanding of the subject matter.

This show takes the opposite approach, by assuming the viewer has a passing interest in the episode topic and would be more engaged if it's presented with humour and empathy by someone with little or no prior knowledge. The presenters sweet and sassy approach draws out the passion of those being interviewed, and looks at the human impact of each topic in a thoughtful and inclusive way. As a lecturer, I'm always looking for innovative ways for my students to learn, and this is certainly a great way to introduce unusual or little known issues and topics to a wider audience.

A fun show that applies an intersectional lens to the subject matter. JVN is a fabulous host, integrating a ton of funny quips and queer cheer while providing interesting information to its viewers.

Jonathan Van Ness is a bubbly, non-binary hairdresser with a gift for comedy. He uses his natural curiosity and personal warmth to interview experts on various topics, which he then experiences with the audience. His guileless sense of wonder and teenage language make him the perfect host for an educational series aimed at children and the young at heart,

This series is a wonderful gift to LGBTQ and non-binary children who don't see themselves represented on Sesame Street or other educational shows. It's fun and it's cool for straight old people like me, too.

The episode about sugar was the most influential to me. Very interesting, not much I have NEVER heard before but packaged in a very intriguing way. The episode about ice skating was a passion project for JVS I get that but sadly the weakest episode imo.

Binge watched! Absolutely loved the variety of topics covered. Whilst the first episode was interesting, I did not particularly enjoy it as much as the others (hence the 9 out of 10) but if you feel the same, stay with it. Hope there will be more episodes in the future!
