    Huge waste of time

It sucks you in with the interesting time-travel premise, then bores you to death with snails-pace editing, mediocre acting, and an indecipherable plot. What a waste of potential.

    There was effort made.

This movie was a complete waste of time. The pace of it is painfully slow. If you like watching people who have unlimited potential do absolutely nothing with it, then this is your movie. It tries so hard to be an existential film and simultaneously unentertaining. Some of the messaging slaps you in the face so hard that it is "after school special" worthy, while other ideas remain so convoluted that the movie ends with you saying, "what the actual f&$k." It was a valiant effort but a big miss for me.

What would YOU do with unlimited potential?

If you're looking for a movie with no action, no climax, a slow-moving plot, minimal story line and every-day characters, this fits the bill exactly. But that's not a bad thing.

Rating this one star above "mediocre" because it has an interesting premise and interesting characters. It's well-directed (if minimally directed), and is worth a look-see.

The main character finds a door on the shore that allows him to travel through time. I won't spoil any of the movie discussing what happens thereafter... but the movie asks one overall question (although very subtly): if we suddenly gained almost unlimited potential power-- what would we do with it?

The characters are the strong point of this movie: the main character who is pretty much a directionless nerd, the well-grounded attorney, the loyal but near-pointless father, and an assortment of fairly well-acted bit parts. Everything fits.

But when you get to the end you'll either love this movie, hate this movie, or meh it, one of the three. That may seem like an odd statement because well, those are the only 3 possibilities with most movies, right? But that's the point. Given all the choices in the universe, what is the "best" choice?

For what it is, it's reasonably done. But like the main character the film aspires to nothing. It lets the viewer take away what we will... a concept which usually flops in most films. In this film it may work for you, or it may not. It's not a film I'd watch again, but it's not a bad film. You can watch this or not watch it and wind up with the same results; it will likely have no effect on your life. Or then again it might, depending on where you are and who you are. And I'm not trying to be cute when I say that's the point.

The Napoleon Dynamite of time travel movies.

    No more words are needed.

A man finds a time machine and can't think of a thing to do with it

It seems so strange this got made.

The lead character is rich and spends his days doing nothing. He literally says he doesn't do anything.

So, when he finds this time travel door, he still does nothing. I should almost put a spoiler warning, because that's basically it.

At least the characterization remains consistent I guess.

Guy: [into tape recorder] So, the notes aren't working. They can't be trusted, they're too subjective. From now on I think I'm gonna leave you vocal instructions.

Guy: [switches off then back on] Nah, actually, that really has the same subjectivity. I think this'll work. I'll be leaving you no instructions. But I want you to listen to what you hear.
