On the road from Sydney to Canberra twenty-two ordinary Australians are remembered for their extraordinary deeds of courage and sacrifice: they are the winners of the Victoria Cross.

Ordinary people, extraordinary deeds. This is a tale of ordinary Australians who performed outstanding deeds in the most difficult circumstances imaginable.

The courage of these people is worth remembering and celebrating. The film brings to life stories about Australians such as Bill Newton, who twice came under heavy fire while leading attacks against Japanese positions in New Guinea. The manner in which he attempted to save his crew by piloting their burning aircraft as far from Japanese positions as possible earned Newton the Victoria Cross posthumously.

This is their story.
