Don't take this show so seriously. It's chaotic, excellently casted, and the art isn't awful like so many of these types of shows. The writing is genuinely clever and satirical. It's a fun romp with a unique story: a city girl inherits a small town with a twist. Lots of self-aware and purposefully ham-fisted commentary on society and cliche shows. The art is legit cute, with more varied movements than similar pop-up shows. The characters are a lot of fun, and played very well. The colors are interested and the character, clothing, and setting design keep the eye busy. Anyway, I don't have much else to say. Here are some words. Enjoy them. I love you, bye.
It's an interesting concept that gives a lot of room for creativity. It's dark and weird and still holds onto some sense of morality while also keeping things light enough for humor. A very odd mix but it's well crafted. The episodes so far are thoughtful and have kept me paying attention but not overly complex where I feel like I have to pay too much attention to details. Some good sight gags. The art style is decent. The character design is a bit nothing though, not too distinct or interesting. I think they could have gone to the drawing board again and came up with something better. But part of me believes that is something that works for me, they don't have too many silly outlandish figures that have to be explained away or require effort to ignore like a talking animal character for example. I'm a few episodes in and I'm interested enough to keep watching. Will see how it progresses.(I wrote this before I finished watching the 4th episode, there was a talking dog for no apparent reason, not sure how I feel about this now)
To start this review I think I have to say I am a huge fan of adult animation, I think if you aren't in to them you won't find this show that good! That being said I always enjoy when cartoons can find there own niche or world building that differentiates them from others. I think this show has done a great job at creating a spot in the animation world. Pretty funny and has up to date cultural references which can help too. I like how the characters interact so far and the actors that play the characters are cool too. Hoping that Hulu will give them at least 1 or 2 more seasons after the current one to give them a chance to really grow into the writing and characters. Overall pretty good show, reminds me a lot of bless the Harts which got unfortunately cancelled.
This show is different but it's so funny! The humor is dry to raunchy humor like a mix of Broad City and Schitts Creek (Annie Murphy is the leading lady's voice). It's the first season of an animated show so the build up is somewhat slow and some jokes didnt land but I was instantly hooked from the first episode because of the storyline. It's different and crossing some borders with making fun of cults and New York's snooty rich people. It's a short 6 episode season and I do hope Freeform gives it a chance to be renewed for a second season. I feel like it has potential to be a good animated comedy show.
I really enjoy this show! I wouldn't exactly say it's a full on comedy or full of jokes but it's lighthearted, humorous and really entertaining to watch. The premise of the show is really refreshing too and there's some interesting dynamics. I'm invested in all the main characters and side characters and always in anticipation of the next episodes. I really really hope we get more seasons!!! Great animation design too. I'm mostly happy with the pacing of the plot and I enjoy the weirdness incorporated in the show because of the cult theme. The characters feel real and I like how Petey grows as a person little by little in each episode.
