Streets of Violence, the Pen Never Lies...

A striking relevant message on the importance of independent and an honest main stream media opens this social conscious drama film. Truth in journalism is a major topical issue of concern today, more so than ever before. After an attempt is made to suppress a journalist's (Tôru Abe) investigation of collusion between a rural police chief and the local gangster bosses, he digs in and will not compromise his personal integrity his ethical responsibilities.... . Satsuo Yamamoto crafted a diversity of little known masterpieces from the 1950s to the '70s, ranging from the controversial and socially conscious, to the historical all his films are highly entertaining. thought provoking adult dramas. Yamamoto was not considered an important director until the early '50s when he began as a freelance director making films independently. These projects including Pen itsuwarazu, bôryoku no machi , were socialist-leaning films, that shined a spotlight, had a focus, where others feared to tread.

Yamamoto was considered one of the initiators of the movement of independent Japanese film-makers. Inspired Directors who boldly produced and presented controversial political and social matters artistically & entertainingly through the cinematic medium.
