The Abandons

Okay, it lacks in originality and the acting can be a bit under done, but it's not a bad story. I came into it without any preconceived notions of another 'Yellowstone'. My biggest complaint about the series, and I see no one else making comment about this, is that Sutter decided to film most of it at night and with totally inadequate lighting. Yes, I realize that in 1854 lighting was primarily candles and lanterns, which didn't give out a lot of light, but watching this I had to discern what was going on because of the pace of the action and the lack of lighting. I even turned out all the lights in the room and adjusted the contrast to offset this, all with no difference in the viewing experience. Combines with the usual (for these days) mumbling of the lines by most characters (I had to turn on the captioning) and I can say it could have been better done. Oh, well...I seriously doubt there will a second season (despite the ending) especially since Sutter left the production before it was finished.

Tad confused by the negative comments with extreme low ratings. I enjoyed it, wasn't as great as Godless for example but I really liked the effort of two strong women being the main characters finally in a western. Some characters lacked depth but I feel maybe not all of them were meant to be in the spotlight.

I would watch a new season too if that happens.

Could have been more details on Constance's character, this way she was really just a cruel woman but somewhat you can understand that two middle aged women in those times could only survive if they're strong and ruthless.

It's a good watch!

Just started The Abandon. Kurt Sutter's new Western with Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson. People are dragging it in reviews and I'm like... is it because it's two strong women instead of yet another dude monologuing into the horizon? Because honestly I love Lena and Gillian. They could read me parking instructions 😭 If this show ends up mid it won't be because of them. It'll be because men on the internet can't handle a Western without a gritty guy named Buck crying into his whiskey. I am very interested to see where this goes. Thanks for the representation of strong women, Kurt ✌🏽

I really don't know what to say. This show is just not that engaging. With two such strong female leads I expected more. It feels more like a Hatfield and McCoys. And there are just way too many stereotypical images thrown in that do nothing for the context. But I think the most irritating and hard to look at is how Lena Healy truly went way too far with the lip Botox. She is a caricature. Such a lovely woman and such horrible transition.

Decent effort, but I feel this should have been made as a one-shot movie, if this is where it ends.

Nowhere near as bad as some are making out, entertaining.

It's enjoyable hocum, not to be taken too seriously. Nowhere near on the levels of SOA or The Shield in teerms of Sutter, but it's a VERY different type of project.

As for people talking about Anderson, wtaf, it's a GREAT performance from both her and Headey.
