The Polar Odyssey

I was not expecting this to be any good, considering it's done by Youku; however I was greatly impressed with this movie, I found myself laughing and appreciating the actions, the sets, the acting and the vibrant colors.

The main cast is wonderful and the music is on point. I can't say I could think of any negative thing to say about it except the fact that I notice that in some scenes that the lips are not matching the voice which is very common in a lot of the Youku movies I have seen.

One of my favorite scene was near the end when Yuan Zhen returns to the underground boxing arena, very little happens here, but it brings up a lot of emotions.

This was an easy and fun watch from start to finish. It almost flew by too quickly and now I want more.

A fun adventure movie with a dash of comedy. There are plenty of twists and turns that keep the movie ticking along but the run time was a tad short.

The chemistry between the four leads are amazing and the rest of the cast was also good. There are some interesting characters in the story but I wish they flesh them out a bit more.

This movie is action packed almost from the start to the very end. The action scenes are clean, realistic and straightforward with an 80's sensibility.

All in all, this film is not to be taken too serious. If you want to take a little escape from reality, this film is something fun to watch.

This is Zhang Yuan's best film so far. Granted he is known mostly as a singer, this film shows a different side of him and proof that he can carry his own in acting. Liu Yase is wonderful in this film. Given that she won the Hong Kong Film Award for best actress, I expected nothing less.

This film is a delightful adventure that gives me a sensation of nostalgia from the times when films were full of good old-fashioned action without the use of CGI. I also really like the ending and the way the director chose to open and close the film in the same location. I don't want to spoil the ending for you but after the film is done you will understand why.

This is not the perfect film but if there is a sequel, I would definitely go and watch it.
