When Imagine Documentaries president Sara Bernstein pitched New York Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams on making a film about her career, even the veteran journalist didn’t understand why Bernstein was interested. “What do you want to make a doc about me for?” Adams asked the “Jim Henson: Idea Man” producer. “Everybody has a documentary. My dentist has a documentary!”
Good line — and she must have a great dentist.
An incomplete list of this year’s celebrity docs includes Simone Biles, Celine Dion, Steve Martin, Roger Federer, Stevie van Zandt, Brian Eno, Frida Kahlo, Devo, Christopher Reeve, Sue Bird, Andrea Bocelli, Elton John, Martha Stewart, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Paul Anka, Pharrell Williams, and Bruce Springsteen.
The appetite seems nearly endless, but producers say it’s increasingly difficult to find famous people whose lives haven’t flashed before our eyes. Said Bernstein, “The challenge today is, who hasn’t had a documentary?...

NBA star Stephen Curry is often brought up in the conversation about GOATs — the greatest basketball players of all time.
While the four-time NBA champion and two-time Mvp’s ranking might be debatable, Curry is making his Goat connection official — by producing a sports comedy movie by the same name for Sony Pictures Animation.
Curry and his Unanimous Media co-founder Erick Peyton will produce the film alongside Academy Award nominee Michelle Raimo Kouyate, and Modern Magic’s Adam Rosenberg (“Creed 3”) and Academy Award winner Rodney Rothman (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”).
“With ‘Goat,’ we look forward to uplifting audiences with diverse characters and heartwarming storylines that will have you rooting for the underdog,” stated Peyton and Curry about the movie, which is aimed at families and sports fans alike.

Before he was Jack Reacher, Alan Ritchson was the tough-talking linebacker Kevin “Thad” Castle on the football comedy Blue Mountain State, a raunchy and hilarious mash-up of Friday Night Lights and American Pie. If you missed out on that cult favorite sports series during its original run, well, you’re in luck: Not only is it already available to stream for free with ads on services like Freevee, Tubi, and Plex, but it’s going to be available to stream uninterrupted (again) on Netflix starting Wednesday, May 1, five years after it was suddenly removed from the streamer’s library. Blue Mountain State ran for three seasons on Spike TV (now Paramount) and centered on a rather ridiculous fictional Midwest football team whose football team, the “Mountain Goats,” was full of ne’erdowellers who were obsessed with hard partying. The show ran for three seasons, from 2010-2011 but was canceled by...

Multiplayer in Goat Simulator 3 gives you and your friends the chance to cause unlimited chaos as your favorite farm animal once again when you join up together. The sandbox world of San Angora can be explored either on a local split-screen or online with distant accomplices. Up to four players can party up and wreak absolute havoc as a co-op team or against each other in several mini-games.
There is currently no crossplay between systems as of this time of writing, and online multiplayer cannot host people playing in local split-screen mode. Anyone joining together must make the decision to either play online or offline, but not both. Thankfully, it's fairly easy to pursue quests in Goat Simulator 3 as a group once you coordinate the platform and method you should host for your friends.

Eva Maria Daniels, producer of independent features “Reality,” “What Maisie Knew” and “Joe Bell,” died on June 30 in London, after battling cancer. She was 43.
Throughout her career, Daniels maintained longstanding partnerships with producer Riva Marker and A24, worked as a producer for The Mill and Company 3 and served as a consultant for the Icelandic Film Fund.
“Eva died on the same terms as she lived. She played her cards close to her chest. She didn’t seek recognition when she had success. She didn’t seek pity when she suffered. I will miss her friendship greatly, but mostly I will miss seeing what she would have done next,” wrote director Börkur Sigthorsson on Facebook.
Most recently, Daniels executive produced the Berlin Film Festival selection and Max feature, “Reality,” which stars Sydney Sweeney and was directed by Tina Satter.
“Eva was hyper intelligent and had a gift for seeking out and supporting artists.

The Goat is one of the most fascinating and contradictory of the signs in the Chinese zodiac. While those born under this sign tend to be fond of quiet living and are often drawn to art and beauty, there’s also a rather pessimistic side to them that can also emerge during times of stress. As a result, they can sometimes be rather vacillating when confronted with a set of challenges.

To mark the release of Goats on 3rd February, we’ve been given 3 copies to give away on DVD.
Based on the novel by Mark Jude Poirier and from first-time director Christopher Neil, Goats centres around the story of fourteen year old Ellis (Graham Phillips), who is getting ready to leave his luxurious home in the foothills of Tucson for his freshman year at Gates Academy, an East Coast prep school. This means leaving behind Wendy (Vera Farmiga – Up in the Air, The Conjuring), his flaky, new age mother and the only real father he has ever known, ‘Goat Man’ (David Duchovny – The X Files, Californication).
At college Ellis discovers a whole new world opening up around him, with new friends and love interests competing with old problems – his real dad Frank (Ty Burell – Modern Family), being one of them. As Ellis attempts to balance the conflicting relationships in his life,...

The 2014 Academy Award nominations were announced this week and the relative snubbing of Captain Phillips, Saving Mr Banks, Inside Llewyn Davis and GI Joe: Retaliation is going to have us all cursing the Academy and discussing the actual quality of American Hustle until about May.
Nonetheless one of the great tragedies of my life is that I cannot actually watch absolutely everything ever that comes out and try as I might to rectify this, there simply are not enough hours in the day. There are a couple of films available on the streaming services that have just been nominated for academy awards this week which I have not had a chance to see thus far.
Those films are; The Square, nominated for Best Documentary Feature and now available on Netflix. The Square is about the uprising in Egypt in early 2011 that made the news around the world and the circumstances around this.

If you were one of those people who did a little head scratch action and wondered "Who?!" when Dakota Johnson was announced as the big screen sex slave-to-be Anastasia Steele in "Fifty Shades of Grey," you are totally not alone.
Apart from the fact that she's the product of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson's second marital union (yep), the public doesn't know a whole heck of a lot about the girl.
Believe it or not, though, you probably have seen her in a movie or two before without realizing it. You see, until this bondage flick score, she's only been the headliner for one project (the short-lived TV show "Ben and Kate"), but she's had a slew of cameo roles that she took full advantage of, so to speak.
Even better, some of them involved some beneath-the-sheets-ish behavior that might just make you wanna rethink signing that "Fifty Shades" recast petition.

I might not have connected with Liza Johnson’s Cannes-selected Return (Linda Cardellini is nominated for an Indie Spirit Best Actress award) but I’m looking at her sophomore film as what we have come to expect from an Alexandre Payne-ish type film: placing an atypical cast of flawed characters in an extreme situation. If the foursome of Guy Pearce, Kristen Wiig, Hailee Steinfeld and Nick Nolte offer some emotional bravura, then Johnson might be the second to successfully adapt an Alice Munro story for the big screen following Sarah Polley before her with Away From Her. Worth noting: Beginners‘ Cinematographer Kasper Tuxen lenses.

One of the stars of ABC’s Modern Family, Ty Burrell will join the human cast for sequel to 2011s The Muppets to replace Django Unchained‘s Christoph Waltz, who was circling the Disney project earlier this fall.
The Austrian actor’s schedule prevented the studio from making a deal and forced him to drop out of the running. Burrell will now take over the role of an Interpol agent in the Europe-set follow-up. Waltz will be reportedly heading off to work on Mike Newell‘s Reykjavik.
James Bobin, who directed the 2011 Muppets film, is returning to helm the still-untitled sequel and co-wrote the screenplay with returning writer Nicholas Stoller. However, The Muppets 2 will not star Jason Segel, who co-wrote and starred in the 2011 movie.

Both Kristen Wiig and Hailee Steinfeld have joined Guy Pearce and Nick Nolte in the indie dramedy Hateship, Friendship, which starting to shoot next week in New Orleans.
The new movie from Return (2011) director Liza Johnson is based on the book of short stories, ‘Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage,’ by Alice Munro.
Penned for the big screen by Mark Poirier (Goats), the Hateship, Friendship project focuses on a nanny (Wiig) hired to care for a rather wild teenage girl (Steinfeld) who using email, ignites a romantic flame between the nanny and her own estranged father (Pearce), a recovering drug addict living in a different town; Nolte will play the girl’s grandfather who blames Pearce’s character for the death of his own daughter.

A lot of indie films create a delightful ensemble of quirky characters and then do not really know what to do with them but let them run free onscreen. Director Christopher Neil's Goats is one of those films. The extended family that surrounds protagonist Ellis Whitman (played with natural boyish charm by Graham Phillips) is, for the most part, utterly strange. They’re the kinds of eccentrics that have enough money to justify the rather strange lives they live; no economic constraints can force them to behave otherwise.
Ellis has grown up on a relatively isolated ranch in Tucson with his New Age spiritual freak of a mother, Wendy (the always impressive Vera Farmiga, who makes what could be an overly grating and annoying role more sympathetic), and the bearded, perpetually stoned scientist known as Goat Man, played by David Duchovny with the ease of someone who was somehow...

Image Entertainment has provided us with an exclusive clip from Goats, the studio's independent comedy arriving on Blu-ray and DVD September 11. Graham Phillips stars as Ellis, a young man who must leave his bizarre mother (Vera Farmiga) and mentor (David Duchovny) behind to attend a prep school. Take a look at this scene where Ellis is blackmailed into joining the cross-country team by a coach (Anthony Anderson) who catches him smoking weed.

In theory, Goats seems like your typical coming-of-age story based at a boys' school. But really, Christopher Neil's directorial debut, based on a screenplay and novel by Mark Poirier, is slightly more than that tired premise. Fourteen-year-old Ellis (Graham Phillips, who plays Zach Florrick on one of my current favorite TV dramas, The Good Wife, and looks years past 14) heads to an East Coast prep school, leaving his hippie/trust-fund-baby mom (Vera Farmiga) to her own devices in Arizona with only the groundskeeper "Goat Man" (David Duchovny) to watch out for her.
Goat Man is something of a spiritual guide to Ellis. He provides Ellis with plenty of weed and serves as a makeshift father figure since Ellis' dad has been out of the picture for years. This new prep school is his dad Frank's alma mater, however, and Ellis keeps finding hints of his dad's times there. Frank...

“Goats” is Christopher Neil’s first film as a director, but he has both an unusually deep connection to the material and an amazingly sturdy foundation of cinematic experience from which to draw. An adaptation of Mark Jude Poirier’s rangy novel of the same name, the film tracks the coming-of-age of Ellis (Graham Phillips), a 15-year-old Tucson native who leaves behind his New Age hippie mom (Vera Farmiga) and his best friend — an affable stoner and their live-in gardener, named Goatman (David Duchovny) – to attend an East Coast prep school where his estranged father (Ty Burrell) once matriculated. David Duchovny is an erudite guy. Although formal collegiate education is often lacking in big screen stars, he possesses both an undergraduate degree from Princeton and a Master of Arts in English literature from Yale. So his casting in director Christopher Neil’s new coming-of-age indie film “Goats,” as a bearded and not particularly motivated gardener named Goatman, may not seem like the most obvious fit. Duchovny, though, breathes dimensionality and life into his character, even if he spends most of the movie actually inhaling. Coming of age stories are the bread and butter of independent cinema. They don’t require any snazzy CGI-effects, no big name actors or their $20 million salaries, and the only “buzz” created is through good ol’ word of mouth, not a multi-faceted, multi-media campaign blitz. It’s the sort of back to basics film-making that is necessitated by the budgets available to unproven directors: simple universal stories, simple old-fashioned techniques.
While more story-oriented movies are a nice change of pace from bloated, marketing-driven franchise films, “independent films” have become just as much a commodity as any of the summer tentpole films. Sundance, IFC, Sony Pictures Classic, and the rest of their ilk are all brand names that conjure up particular (and more important, sellable) images. The social outcast protagonist, usually stuck in some existential ennui, surrounded by an assortment of Carroll-esque kooks, pulling the hero in this or that unexpected direction,...

And then there’s Goat Man (Duchovny), the goat-herding sage who has lived in their pool house since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of stability, commitment, and expanding one’s mind. When Ellis decides...

Offbeat coming-of-age movie, “Goats,” is in theaters now! Based on Mark Jude Poirier’s best-selling novel, director Christopher Neil’s hilarious and poignant film is a witty reversal of the coming of age formula, a beautifully honest portrayal of life with its rough edges, awkward moments, and non-endings. His mom (Vera Farmiga) is a New Age hippie that spends all of her time working on self-help rituals with her hustler boyfriend (Justin Kirk). Last night on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, with much due respect, lightened the tension surrounding Robert Pattinson's first TV appearance since the Kristen Stewart scandal with what any "two gals" would use to commiserate over a bad breakup: Ben & Jerry's ice cream and saucy relationship tips. "Boy, you are better off," Stewart snapped, "Kick her to the curb. Whateva!" That sass broke RPatz's stoicism into laughter and a cute "Is that an impression of yourself?" He also loved the ice cream, so Good Morning America, get your freezers ready. Plus: David Duchovny and his high school crew had been bleating like goats even before Goats; and Andy Samberg, like all New York residents, had his own gross vermin-in-the-kitchen story. The indie comedy Goats, based on Mark Poirier’s best-selling novel, tells the story of Ellis (Graham Phillips), a 15-year-old looking to find his place among his eccentric family. His mom (Vera Farmiga) is a New Age hippie that spends all of her time working on self-help rituals with her hustler boyfriend (Justin Kirk), while his dad (Ty Burrell) left home years ago and is more focused on his new wife (Keri Russell) and family. And then, there’s Goat Man (David Duchovny), the goat-herding sage who has lived in their pool house since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of expanding one’s mind. At the film’s press day, actor Graham Phillips spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about the long road to getting this film made (including the role of Goat Man being recast with Kevin Kline, at one point), how much fun he...

Sweet and simple, almost to a fault, Goats tells a familiar story of a child at the center of a bitter feud between his long-since divorced parents. In his debut film, director Christopher Neil plays it safe (though this may not necessarily be a bad thing). In the end, a strong cast and the sweet and simple nature of the script (based on the novel by Mark Poirier) makes Goats a charming little indie tale worth the viewing....

It's a common practice for movie productions to bring in specialists to coach actors in preparation for roles that require them to perform certain complex behaviors, such as driving, fighting or playing the piano. But, what if the complex behaviors in question are rolling joints and smoking pot? Well, according to Graham Phillips, then you turn to a "master of the cannabic arts" for instruction.
In first-time director Christopher Neil's new coming-of-age movie, Goats, Phillips needed to look practiced at smoking marijuana to play Ellis, the son of a New Age "hippie" mother (Vera Farmiga) whose mentor and father-figure is the Goat Man (David Duchovny), a "botanist and a goat trekker" well-versed in said "cannabic arts." For his role, Duchovny joked that he "didn't need" a coach to teach him how to smoke pot, but he did need some instruction in rolling joints. Duchovny also conceded that he isn't...
