Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover

I've never written a review before so bare with me. I felt the urge to write one today as I feel this movie is heavily underrated. I voted highly as I would like to see the ratings up. Firstly I can see how this movie could be misinterpreted as just another cheesy mafia film. To be honest it kind of is for all the right reasons especially if you're a lady loving lady. Sure this movie isn't for everyone but it is fun and light-hearted.

If you're a woman who likes women. I want you to think of a LGBT themed movie that has a happy, light, funny storyline.

    ...go on....take your time...

    'But I'm A Cheerleader' doesn't count!

    ...something with a realistic script.

I know I'm struggling to think of one.

That's the point I want to make. We don't have enough movies like this, where we can just sit back and enjoy the laugh without someone dying, breaking up or going through emotional struggle. I feel like this movie ticks all the right boxes. Maybe it is a 10/10 not as a film in general, but in terms of LGBT films.

When I first watched this film I too was quick to judge it just another cheesy mafia film. However, after the numerous times watching it, it is now one of my favourite lesbian movies.

If my rambling hasn't put you off then I urge you to go watch this film!

    and remember...

...don't judge a book by its cover (or movie..so to speak)

    Wonderful and underrated

Subtle, insightful, intriguing, emotional. Brilliant for anyone living in communities within communities. Two young people, surrounded by threats, intrigue, distrust, broken relationships, cheating and violent death, find they have a love for each other. Yes, that's been a storyline before but it's so well done here, in my view, in a film that sketches in life like an impressionist painting.

    ALTO

I love this film took a risk on watching it but it's turned out to be one of my all time favourite LBTQ films. Diana DeGarmo and Natalie Knepp are awesome as Francesco and Nicolette. Nicolette loved Frankie from the moment they met but it was suttle the way Frankie came out the closet and fell in love with Nicolette. I loved the Dance scenes were Frankie finally admitted she loved Nicolette. Can someone please tell me what Frankie says to Nicolette in Italian when they finished dancing and hugged one another. I loved the rest of the cast and a lot of the humour in the script xxx.

    It struck a chord!

This movie struck a special chord for me, its low budget, at times poorly acted and cheesy but the intimacy in the romance scenes is something I usually don't see in LGBT films. The encounters are unreplacable, and the mafia looming over the plot is cute. Its especially heart warming to see such nice simple things such the bathroom scene where Nicolette gazes at Frankie is adorable and just feels so sincere. It's those details that make this film such a 10, the intimacy.

    Highly Underrated.

Don't go on the rating. 4.4/10 really is a false number. I am not saying this is a masterpiece of any sorts.

But, is a decently pleasant and funny film with a lesbian undertone. nothing too arousing or graphic though.

The story revolves around Frankie who is a homosexual who still hasn't come out of the closet yet. Her sister is a thrill seeker infatuated with the idea of Italian mafia. The story really starts when Frankie finds herself being attracted towards Nicolette who is the daughter of a mobster. The plot though very simple also focuses on various issues like your background, heritage and most importantly your orientation.

Diana DeGarmo shines in her role as Sofia and remains in character throughout the movie. Natalie Knepp plays the role the of beautiful and charismatic NIcolette and does a very decent job at that. The others actors too are likable.

The story though a bit cheesy in places is believable. Ignore the rating and give this a go. It will be a nice thing to pass your time on a lazy weekend evening.
