Exclusive: Jennifer Holland, who has played Agent Emilia Harcourt in James Gunn’s DC movie The Suicide Squad and spinoff series Peacemaker, has signed with Strand Entertainment for representation.

Holland has reprised the tough-as-nails Harcourt in such DC movies as Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Season 2 of Peacemaker began production back in the spring. The series follows John Cena’s Suicide Squad anti-hero as he’s enlisted for the enigmatic A.R.G.U.S. black ops squad for “Project Butterfly”. His mission is to find and eliminate parasitic butterfly-like creatures who have taken over human bodies. The second season will reportedly premiere after Gunn’s Superman which doesn’t hit theaters until July 11, 2025. Gunn will direct some episodes with Greg Mottola directing others. Tim Meadows is part of season 2.

Exclusive: Aardman, the iconic UK animation studio behind Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit, has closed around 20 jobs as it grapples with the increased cost of production.

Deadline understands that Aardman is in the process of making less than 5% of its 425 employees redundant following a savings review undertaken by management.

A third of the redundancies were voluntary, while two roles remain in consultation. It is hoped that some of the individuals who have lost their jobs can return to Aardman on a freelance basis.

As part of the restructure, Aardman has created new roles to wring increased value out of its intellectual property. These roles include a senior licensing manager and sales executive.

The cost-cutting initiative comes as Aardman has filed its earnings for 2023, which reveal that the studio sunk to a pre-tax loss of £550,135. The company made a profit of £1.56M in 2022.

Tony McFarr, a stuntman best known as the double for actor Chris Pratt in blockbusters like Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, died as the result of an irregular heartbeat due to an issue with his heart valves, the Orange County Florida Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to Deadline.

Ruling the death accidental, the Me’s Office says McFarr died of probable cardiac dysrhythmia due to mitral valve insufficiency. Contributing factors include alcohol poisoning and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, known as Copd, a common lung condition that causes constriction of the airways and difficulty in breathing.

McFarr was found dead at his Florida home outside of Orlando on May 13. He was 47.

Bill Cobbs, a prolific film and TV actor with memorable performances in Night At The Museum, Brother From Another Planet, Oz The Great And Powerful, The Sopranos and dozens of others, died surrounded by family Tuesday, June 25, of natural causes at his home in Inland Empire, California. He was 90.

His death, first reported by TMZ, was confirmed on the website of the Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home in Merritt Island, Florida.

McFarr’s mother Donna told TMZ that the exact circumstances of his death are unknown but that his passing was unexpected.

The Orange County Medical Examiner has confirmed to Deadline that an exam has taken place and a cause/manner of death is pending toxicology results. His date of passing is listed as May 13, when he was found unresponsive.

Pratt reacted to McFarr’s death on his Instagram Stories, saying he was “devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double,” adding “We did several movies together.

He was 65.

According to reports, McCaffrey died Sunday of multiple myeloma cancer.

He was probably most well-known to non-video game players for his work on Rescue Me, where he played Jimmy Keefe.

Keefe was a New York firefighter who lost his life on 9/11.

He appears as a ghost to his cousin, played by Denis Leary, and his character drives some of Leary's richest scenes as Leary's character tries to understand the loss and why he's still alive.

McCaffrey had a series regular role for the first three seasons before switching to a recurring capacity for the final four seasons.

The FX hit also starred John Scurti, Michael Lombardi, Steven Pasquale, and Andrea Roth.

Throughout his career, the actor had countless credits across movies, TV, and video games.

Born in Albany, New Yor, McCaffrey got his breakthrough in a recurring role on the 1991-93 the TV legal drama series Civil Wars, and in 1996 was hired by Dick Wolfe for the series Swift Justice. Even in the current era of streaming services, procedural television is still going strong with shows like NCIS, FBI, and 9-1-1 continuously pulling in impressive viewership numbers. However, for every popular procedural show, there are bound to be some that receive significantly lesser attention.

After breaking out as fan favorite character Enid Sinclair on the hit Netflix show Wednesday, Myers has reportedly taken the lead role in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, a TV series adaptation from the BBC inspired by the Holly Jackson novel series. Recent TV cancellations have affected viewers' willingness to even start watching a television series, a new study shows. Many popular or big-budget television series have been axed left and right across network and streaming platforms over the course of the previous year. This includes one of the most recent cancellations, Disney+'s Willow sequel series, which brought back Warwick Davis as the title character from the 1988 fantasy film classic.

Per Variety, this spate of cancellations has severely impacted audiences, as revealed by a survey performed by YouGov. According to their results, audiences are now more likely to wait until a season or even an entire series has ended before binging it, for fear of it being canceled on a cliffhanger. 46 percent of American viewers said that they prefer to wait for the series to end before even beginning it, with the highest proportion of viewers being in the coveted 18 to 34 age range.

Adapted by Leila Gerstein (The Handmaid’s Tale, Hart of Dixie) from Alexis Schaitkin’s novel of the same name, the psychological drama explores “how a young woman’s mysterious death during an idyllic Caribbean vacation creates a traumatic ripple effect that eventually pulls her surviving sister into a dangerous pursuit of the truth,” per Variety.

Women’s Weekend Film Challenge (Wwfc) is launching a pilot accelerator program for writers to pitch female-centric content.

The program, which will see emerging TV writers pitching beginning in October of this year, was designed to help such writers advance their careers, as well as to increase the representation of women non-binary people working in television.

“So many members of our community have pilot scripts ready to go but no one to pitch to,” Wwfc co-founder Tracy Sayre said in a statement. “This gap became especially apparent over the last year as we’ve hosted weekly virtual workshops; far and away, the most popular events have centered around how to pitch and how to break into the writers room. This accelerator is a natural response to the career goals of our community.”

Wwfc is accepting applications for the accelerator on FilmFreeway from June 17 to July 21, 2021. The program will take place virtually.

Exclusive: Reinout Oerlemans is spreading his wings internationally with a new global division of 3 Ball Media Group (3Bmg) and has scored an order for a home design series in Holland.

3Bmg Chairman and Chief Creative Officer Oerlemans previously founded Eyeworks, the global production giant that was sold to Warner Bros. in a deal worth around $273M.

Now, he and 3Bmg CEO Ross Weintraub are going global with production entity 3Bmg International.

The division will focus on original format creation and acquisition, and international sales, distribution and local co-production across Europe. It will open offices in Holland, run initially by the pair.

The “Suicide Squad” spinoff series “Peacemaker” at HBO Max has cast Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, and Chris Conrad.

The trio joins previously announced series lead John Cena and cast members Danielle Brooks and Steve Agee. Patrick will star as Auggie Smith, while Holland will reprise her role from James Gunn’s “Suicide Squad” as Emilia Harcourt. Holland will appear as Vigilante/Adrian Chase. Cena and Agee are also reprising their roles from the film.

NBC has given a put pilot commitment to drama Sovereign, from Emmy winner Ava DuVernay and Bird Runningwater. The project, written by Sydney Freeland (Drunktown’s Finest) and Shaz Bennett (Bosch) from a story by DuVernay, marks the first Native American family drama developed for network television.

Sovereign chronicles the lives, loves and loyalties of a sprawling Indigenous family struggling to control the future of their tribe against outside forces and themselves.

The drama is produced by DuVernay’s Array Filmworks in association with Warner Bros. Television. Freeland and Bennett will executive produce with DuVernay. Array’s Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes will co-executive produce with Runningwater.

Through her Warner Bros. Television Group overall deal, DuVernay is currently executive producing the fifth season of her OWN/Warner Bros. TV drama series Queen Sugar and Cherish the Day, as well as the upcoming NBC family social experiment reality series Home Sweet Home...

Efforts to find the canceled ABC dramedy a new home have not been successful, meaning that the series will remain dead.

The Baker and the Beauty was saddled with low ratings from the beginning of its run.

Initially set to follow the Clare Crawley-led The Bachelorette, the series ultimately followed a the terribly rated The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart.

News of the show failing to find a new home comes almost a month after ABC pulled the plug.

This paved the way for the series’ leading lady, Nathalie Kelley, to criticize the network for the decision.

The news comes three weeks after Alphabet network cancelled the show, citing low ratings. In the immediate aftermath of the announcement, the series’ leading lady, Nathalie Kelley, condemned the decision. “Baker and the Beauty is a show that depicts Latin families as warm, lovable, full of joy and compassion and humor,” the actress said. “A cancellation by ABC means that there are now no shows on the networks with a Latinx cast.

The Baker and the Beauty may be canceled, but Nathalie Kelley has released a new statement on the matter, conceding that the decision to end the drama is "extremely tone deaf."

"We are seeing now more than ever that representation is important for Black and brown people of color. How we are represented on our television shows determines how society sees us, and the empathy and support they will grant our communities," Kelley said.

"When we are constantly depicted as narcos and maids, we can’t expect to find favor with voters when they go to the polls and elect leaders who will decide on the fate of immigrants."

IMDb TV, the free, ad-supported streaming service owned by Amazon, has acquired rights to more than 20 scripted TV titles controlled by Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer & International division.

The roster of shows whose free streaming rights are going to IMDb includes Desperate Housewives, My So-Called Life, White Collar and The Glades, among many others. In the coming months, Lost, Malcolm in the Middle and Ally McBeal will start streaming on IMDb, with Lost and Malcolm having the Amazon platform as their exclusive free streaming home.

In conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Lost finale on ABC, all 121 episodes of Lost will start streaming on May 1. All 112 episodes of Ally McBeal will be available on April 1 and all 151 episodes of Malcolm in the Middle will hit the platform on June 1.
