Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures has released the first trailer for Hostiles, which reunites director Scott Cooper and Christian Bale after their 2013 drama Out of the Furnace. The movie is slated to hit theaters in late December, which could make this an early favorite for the 2018 Oscars, although we still have quite some time before the awards season picture starts fully coming together. Still, this drama has been tearing through the prestige festival circuit, debuting at Telluride in September before appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival, Rome Film Fest and more, as it gets ready to debut at AFI Fest in Los Angeles next week.
Set in 1892, Hostiles tells the story of a legendary Army Captain (Christian Bale), who after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Wes Studi) and his family back to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, an...

Chicago – The beautiful Mali Elfman, daughter of the great composer Danny Elfman, has written and produced (and co-stars in) a unique piece of work called “Do Not Disturb,” a collection of interconnected short films that chronicles the bizarre happenings in a Los Angeles hotel room and is now available On Demand. What goes on behind closed doors? If the walls of even one room could talk, the stories they would tell would be great fodder for filmmaking. “Do Not Disturb” is too inconsistent to recommend completely but features a few interesting elements and bodes well for a promising filmmaker.
Not unlike “Four Rooms,” “Do Not Disturb” links together a series of short films through one hotel worker, an unnamed maid effectively played by Diva Zappa (the youngest daughter of the legendary Frank). In the independent feature Do Not Disturb, five directors took on five short stories, all tied together in one dark, humorous film about what goes on behind the door of hotel room 316, and the maid who connects all of the stories together. Actor Eric Balfour, who appears in the segment entitled “Rocketman” opposite True Blood star Lindsay Pulsipher, makes his feature directorial debut with the film’s first segment, “Duccio’s Madonna,” a dark drama about a lonely man (Harris Goldberg) that pushes a hooker (Maureen Flannigan) too far, only to find an eager maid (Diva Zappa) happy to help him finish the job. With little time for preparation, each director was given a brief synopsis and one day on set to tell their story, all of which was overseen by producer Mali Elfman (who also appears in two of the film’s segments), giving it a truly collaborative feel.

Actor Eric Balfour has been hired to turn his attentions to behind the camera and turn Jesus Hates Zombies, the graphic novel from Stephen Lindsay, into a feature-length movie from a script written by Michael Mongillo and Jason Alan Smith.
The graphic novel tells of a zombie plague taking over the world, as we've seen play out in movies, comics, games, and TV shows so many times now, but this time the creator himself is watching and doesn't like what he sees, so he once again sends Jesus back to Earth -- this time to throw down with the zombie horde.
As far as directing goes, Balfour has only taken part in a film called Do Not Disturb with four other directors. But you surely recognize him from his many acting roles over the years, which began with Kids Incorporated (remember that one?) and includes Six Feet Under, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,...

With a title like Jesus Hates Zombies, we are definitely on board Eric Balfour's feature film directorial debut. As so is Mali (Do Not Disturb) Elfman, who has just officially signed on to produce the project.
According to Tonight at the Movies, the script was written by Michael Mongillo and Jason Alan Smith based on Stephen Lindsay’s comic book of the same name. Elfman explains why she joined the production as follows: "Though there have been other zombie films before, what attracted me to this film was its edginess, dark sense of humor, and intelligent commentary that really sets the film apart."
Balfour elaborates, "It’s an honor to be a part of this project. It’s bold, unapologetic, and controversial. When I read the script, I was blown away by how well the writers had given life to Stephen’s graphic novel. What most intrigued me about...

Eric Balfour is making the transition from acting with an adaptation of the graphic novel Jesus Hates Zombies . The Skyline and Texas Chainsaw Massacre star is partnering with producer Mali Elfman (he worked with her on Do Not Disturb ) to bring Stephen Lindsay's comic book to life. Michael Mongillo and Jason Alan Smith are penning the script. Here's a bit of praise for the screenplay from Balfour: "What most intrigued me about the project was it.s heart and message. There is plenty of comedy and action in the script but what I wasn.t expecting and am most excited about bringing to the screen is it.s message of love and faith. I love when a script can break the mold and offer something unique and I.m going to work my ass off to honor Michael and Jason.s great...

Do Not Disturb is an anthology film about stories taking place in one hotel room, written and produced by Mali Elfman.
"I like to think of it as an intense Lego project," says Elfman. "I came up with the idea after Comic‐ Con, when my apartment was flooded and I was housed in a hotel for three months. Live in a hotel long enough and you see a lot of crazy people."
Elfam gave the five directors a story idea and some rules, and let them interpret her crazy ideas into five different stories.
Laura Waters writes and directs one of the segments, Prom, which Elfman describes as the most warm-hearted of the quintet. Sexy genre actor Eric Balfour (Skyline) directs an episode entitled Duccio's Madonna. Elfman herself stars in the segment Intrinsic. Ghosts, gangsters, love, violence, romance, pain, and happiness run through the stories and bring Elfman's original vision to life,...

Eric Balfour, Laura Henry, Petro Papahadjopoulos, Jon Mann-Krieger and Brandon Nicholas each direct a segment in this twisted anthology that sounds like a Twilight Zone version of Four Rooms. They were given a brief synopsis, eight rules to follow and one day on set to create their film.
Synopsis:
Five directors tackle five short stories that are all tied together in one dark, twisted, humorous film about what goes on behind the door of room 316. From a lonely man who pushes a hooker too far, to a Twilight Zone-esque, sci-fi tale, to a sweet teenage romance, and then finally a noir thriller about a man, a woman, a maid and the mafia tied into a spooky horror with a hotel maid - Do Not Disturb has it all.
The cast includes Balfour, Diva Zappa, Jason Alan Smith, Troy Garity, Lindsay Pulsipher, Mali Elfman, Maureen Flannigan, Jonathan Majors and John Reese.

I'm a huge True Blood fan. I've read the books, I've watched every episode. As far as I'm concerned, vampires have not overstayed their welcome. Alright, maybe the Twilight vampires. I just got a chance to chat with Lindsay Pulsipher who plays Jason Stackhouse's love interest, Crystal. (I did her makeup for the upcoming film, Do Not Disturb.) She had a pretty big revelation this week. And yes, we do mention what it was. If you're afraid of spoilers, I'll mark it in the question so you can skip that one. Lindsey gives us all the info about playing a character who is constantly sporting a black eye, nudity on camera and what it's been like to work with an engaged couple planning a wedding on set. Let's face it -- anthology films usually don't work. At best they often prove to be mixed bags, with perhaps one cherry in a pile of pits. Of course most of them lack a halfway decent thematic hook. Which is why I have hope for Do Not Disturb, an upcoming thriller comprised of five interconnected shorts, each of them by a different director (and starring a different cast) but set in the same hotel room. It features a few names and faces that'll be familiar to genre fans, including Eric Balfour (of Haven and Six Feet Under; here he's both starring and making his directorial debut), Lindsay Pulsipher (True Blood), and Diva Zappa (The Mighty Boosh). It's also got a theme by...

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting ScreenCrave writer and fellow film journalist Mali Elfman (right) on multiple occasions. In case you missed it, she was the one who directed last year’s sweded Iron Man 2 trailer (and I was lucky enough to co-star in it). Elfman recently produced a film called Do Not Disturb. It’s from five different directors (Eric Balfour, Petro Papahadjopoulos, Laura Henry, Jon Mann-Krieger and Brandon Nicholas) and tells five separate stories but also can come together to form a complete feature with a single storyline. It’s like a cinematic Voltron. I should also make it clear that Elfman also co-stars in the film and that’s why she’s splatted with blood in the photo above. Or at least that’s what I’ve been led to believe.
