Talking in the kitchen after smelling cinnamon toast, Keesha Sharp tells Essence Atkins that she is between boyfriends and mentions she could sell a "J. Crew" sweater online to help "TIE" her over while she's in between boyfriends. The CORRECT phrase is "TIDE" over. It's only one letter but it make all the difference in what's being said. Take the extra time and make sure whatever it is you are trying to say is actually the right expression. Way too many take short cuts and use adages improperly. Let's get back on target and respect our language while we can still speak and write it. Please. There may be a time in our future that what we say and communicate will be edited and restricted base on the content. At least use the proper words.
It's a nice light hearted family show that I will admit starts slow but gets good towards the middle of the second season.
I don't really understand a lot of the criticism, the vast majority of sitcoms are at this level of quality my biggest issue with the show is it can be boring at times but aside from that enjoyable. The main characters are okay and most the celebrity guest steal the show each his own I guess but I prefer the show over the movie.

Believe it or not, as a kid, I was a fan of the original movie. Upon looking for something for my dog to watch in the background, while I work from home, I noticed this show on the IMDb channel. After a few minutes, I was utterly disappointed. The overall casting is not the worst, but there could have been changes to make it better. Terry Crews, Coys Stewart, Keesha Sharp, and Telma Hopkins do a great job taking on previous and new characters.
However, Essence Atkins and Teala Dunn were not so pleasant. I sensed a forced or strained voice coming from Atkins that reflects poorly or better yet, sounds corny. Aleisha Allen, known as the punctual teen who can sing, does not reflect in Teala's performance. I'll admit, even Terry Crews does not portray the same persona as the Nick from the original film.
There's supposed to be that dynamic of a former bachelor learning to be a father figure while transitioning into family values. Suzanne should ecstatic about starting a family she dreamed of, alongside maintaining her busy career. The children should be learning how to deal with a new chair at the dinner table, while bonding with their step-father through teenage matters.
As much as the show had potential, I completely understand why it has been cancelled. The jokes missed the punchlines and the storyline left the show.

Great venture for Ice Cube and I really appreciate that he tapped into great talent and creative pools from now defunct CW shows like "Everybody Loves Chris" and "Half and Half". With "Are We There Yet?" being on TBS following the lead of the template that Tyler Perry has set should insure that these shows don't end abruptly and will have a lasting syndication run.
These episodes are setting the pace for possibilities with all the rich characters and situations to draw from. For example the Hyphenated name issue really was thought provoking and funny. I give this a 7 with room to grow. I am look forward to seeing where things go.

I'm sorry but Essence Atkins character Suzanne was miserable and miserable to watch. She was jealous, mean, controlling, distrusting, rude, arrogant and just a complete disaster. I was SO happy she wasn't in season 2. The show was fine without her.
I get it she had a bad relationship with the kids dad but she never reached an arc of crusty. She just stayed miserable and unhappy unless things were going her way and Terry Cruz's character was just weak.
He never stood his ground and was constantly groveling to appease his miserable wife. The only enjoyable thing about the show was her absence and the kid from next door.
Oh and Gigi and Martin were awesome! I know the show is old but my gawd was that 1st season unbearable to watch with her.
I gave 5/10 because the last 2 seasons were great w/o her.
