    Unadulterated periyarist bilge

Bluestar is anything but a sports movie .

It hectors its way into cinematic oblivion with the most convenient and abjectly superficial treatment of subaltern vs the elite , rendering it a caste color where there is none.

This tendency has been a calling card of direcotr Pa Ranjit who seems to resort to easy tropes to justify his hatred for some based on caste . So the old fashioned casteism of the director oozes forth through the movie through a festering sore .

He scratches every shadow and plumbs every pit of his Periyarist casteist mind to find justification for discrimination based on caste .

    Patently avoidable bilge.

    Sports can unite anyone!

I saw this film today and initially I felt that maybe this film was another caste discrimination film but was pleasantly surprised about the way the caste differences were depicted. The humor elements are judiciously spread throughout the length of the film ensuring that the audience is hooked to storyline. The character who portrays Ashok Selvan's brother in the movie, has done a very commendable job and his performance was very memorable. Shantanu plays second fiddle to Ashok Selvan but has shown enough promise for people to expect him to play a solo hero role sometime in the future.

This will surely be a landmark film for Ashok Selvan as it is his first with his wife starring opposite him as the heroine.

A social-concerned sports drama with some flaws..!

"Blue star" is a usual cricket based drama but seems different by its staging, set-up and conflicts. The first half of the movie is is very engaging with intersting conflicts between 2 local teams. The interval block was good enough, but the second turns out to be a usual cricket drama where the protagonist's team joins a tournament and competing against the ultimate antagonist in the finals. Ashok Selvan has been the main pillar of the movie. His performance was too good. Shanthanu gave a good performance for the character with some flaws in writing. Bhagavan perumal and prithvi who played the characters of Immanuel and Sam gave interesting and suprise performances. Govindh vasantha's 1 song was good and the background score was very good. Cinematography was not great but good enough. Positives are the performances of lead actors, character conflicts in the first half/the entire first half and mainly the dialogues. Negatives are the second half where there is no seriousness in the games after the first match and started to feel repetitive, and the Romance portions were started to feel unwanted after some time. 2nd half fails to speak the politics effectively that have been spoken in first half. On a whole, this a good movie with some flaws.

    A good cricket movie

The blue star as the name suggests a decent movie with all the elements like love fight sentiments emotions politics groups etc. And more cricket. Its a complete package. The screenplay would have been better, better techniques could have been used as more scenes are predictable. The story is not quite different same old one but good. The movie is lagging something, something is missing. Many scenes seems to be unwanted one. The effort from ashok selvan and shantanu has top notch. Their performances were the pillar of the story and pakshu has played an importnat role in this movie. The politics spoken is ok but need efective way to communicate. Overall a good movie can watch it for a time. Please do watch it available in prime.

    Not GREAT, but certainly GOOD!!

Finally got around to watching this film after all the hype. This socio-political movie, disguised (not in a bad way) as a sports drama was well done. I'd much rather watch films like these than the ones that get too preachy and hung up on the messaging.

Sports dramas can get too dramatic, it wasn't the case with this one. The cricket portions of the film didn't feel forced. Everybody body who acted well, except the coach. Felt like he over acted. It's OK to make the bad guy really loud to make the good guy look extra good, but that's just the easy way out. The comedy parts were...OK. I'm not a fan of 'this has to have something for everyone' type films because it changes the intensity of the film a little too much, and I felt that happen with this film as well. But that's just me. Was it bad? Not at all.

The music was....interesting. All sorts of genres, mostly Rock for background music and the buildup scenes. Some of the shots, the wide angle ones of the trains in the background, were GOOD! Overall, the film could have ended up being real preachy, but wasn't. I'll gladly watch this over Kaala/Kabali/Maamannan. That said, it should have been a GREAT movie, but wasn't. Despite the predicable plot, it was GOOD movie nevertheless and I'd totally recommend that you check it out, at least for Ashok Selvan and choices he's been making lately. What a great 1-2 years has he had!!
