I think episodes like these are the strength of the series! Focusing on the human behind the conestants and the themes of society, rather than the games themselves!
The core theme of this episode is equality! How in society, nothing feels equal to them, but within the games, everything is equal! No one is treated diiferent, they all get the same options, and the same treatment!
The side plot gets a lot of attention, and I am glad, as it both offers some reveals while also adding more questions for future reveals!
But if you look past that, you will find an episode that is very far from slow or boring. The tension is felt perhaps more than ever. Because instead of the insane massacre we are used to, the stakes are far more personal and intimate. Every life is given more value because we have known the characters for a longer period of time.
Insane episode that keeps the things I love about the show.

- TriviaIn the conversation between Ali and Cho Sang-woo, after learning Ali's age, the latter tells him that he can address him by his first name (Sang-woo, since in Korea, the family name always comes first). This isn't merely a politeness issue; the full translation is that Sang-woo actually allows Ali to call him "hyung", meaning "older brother", which is used to address older men with whom the speaker has a special bond. Foreign immigrants like Ali are generally regarded as a lower class of citizens. Until that moment, Ali has been submissively bowing and addressing everyone as "sajangnim" (boss), so to his delight, this is the moment where he is finally considered an equal.

Front man: Whether you sell the dead bodies' organs, or eat them, or whatever, I don't give a damn. However, you ruined the most important aspect of this place: Equality. Everyone is equal while they play this game. Here, every player gets to play a fair game under the same conditions. These people suffer from inequality and discrimination out in the world, and we're giving them one last chance to fight fair and win. But, you broke that principle.
