This Chinese version of Beauty and the Beast is romantic, funny, dreamy, heartwarming and heart-wrenching. The artistic CGI enhances the fantasy feel. I was blown away by the stunning music, beautiful set design and the heartfelt portrayal by the cast.
Dylan Wang nails a challenging role of the heartless and ruthless but inadvertently funny and loveable Supreme Lord of the Moon Tribe, Dongfang Qingcang.
Esther Yu as lowly Fairy Orchid Xiao Lanhua is initially annoying with her high-pitched, whiney, babyish way of talking but she eventually grows on you once you realize Lanhua is really a baby immortal, just 1500 years old compared to Dongfang Qingcang who is more than 30,000 years old. Now, before Xianxia newbies get dismayed at this age difference, it will be noted that Xianxia is a genre that deals with immortality and reincarnation, thus aging happens differently. In any case, Lanhua does grow up, becoming much less whiney and babyish as the drama progresses. However, she retains a baby's innocence and purity of heart, making her one of the most admirable female leads I've encountered in CDramas. Instead of the usual revenge-driven grudge-keeping CDrama characters, Lanhua sees the best in everyone and is quick to forgive and forget. She does not hesitate to come to the rescue of other people, with no thought of her own safety. Her pure heart, kindness and courage melt DFQC's heart, or rather, restore his emotional tree.
Roc Chen's sublime background music, also featured in Royal Nirvana, soars, a fitting accompaniment to the exquisite artistic visuals. The other musical pieces are equally stirring.
In summary, it's a beautiful and powerful drama that dares to make viewers believe in the supremacy of love.

I find myself watching this over and over again. The characters were very well played and the storyline well executed. The special effects were my favorite part. It's amazing to have so many scenes cause you to feel the emotions through the screen. The female lead was annoying but it made sense when you watch it. Her character development throughout the series is amazing. Have patience and understand their character is meant to be played that way. Moon Supreme falling in love with Orchid was a beautiful love story. I wish it didn't have to end so short. I wanted to see how he was able to return and what their life is like after reuniting. It left you wanting more from the story. You HAVE to watch it to understand. It's worth it!!!
I loved Dylan Wang in this series, his character was well written and very charismatic. The only eyesore was Esther Yu, who, despite of being reasonably pretty, and playing the role of a 1500 year old fairy, just had to behave like a 5-year old! Her acting was thoroughly irritating, and though in the later episodes she did start acting a bit mature, I just couldn't digest her kid dish behaviour. The story was interesting for fantasy genre, and the second male lead acted well too, I even liked the villain more than the female lead! I guess saying this is enough to say how bad she was! I wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't for Dylan Wang.
This series melt my heart by their unconditional love, while watching this series, my emotions going like Rollercoaster, funny, tears, sadness, Esther and Dylan Wang they have amazing chemistry , Dylan Wang is born to play the invincible cold heart, Moon Supreme, a Dark Lord has been sealed for 30000 years the most powerful demon of the three realms finally out into the world after being jailed up for 30,000 years and immediately being stuck in a low ranked fairy's body. The Story started as a Romantic Comedy.
The romance is captivating , the story is classic forbidden love ( Moon Tribe vs Fairy Tribe) but the way it incorporated with fantasy is so refreshing and engaging, the acting skills for all the cast is top tier, Dylan Wang the main lead as Moon Supreme , his charm is a Bomb on screen, the devilishly handsome actor caught your eye in every shot. He is regal, cold, majestic when we first meet Dong Fang Qing Cang, and we discover his soft, giddy and happy side when he meets the love of his life. We see his jealousy, anger, uncertainty and deep sadness as the story progresses. The chemistry with Esther Yu is amazing that make the whole love story believable which touch your heart. The sets , costume is insanely beautiful which suit the character very well. I love every piece of Moon Supreme's costume. This is a drama mixed with comedy , sadness as the story develop. Both actors did very well in the body swap part which make me laugh my head off. Each character has a well develop story and they are all nicely told. The Main theme is What is Love ? Love can melt the coldest heart of a devil, the script and story line is so well written, the writing is impeccable. Scriptwriters understand what makes good comedy, and that so much comedy comes from pain, Something your laughing over in the earlier episodes will turn its back on you and stab you with emotion and pain.
This is the best Xianxia Drama I have watch so far, if you only choose one drama to watch, this is the one you should !

Superb sci-fi drama I've watched recently! It delicately, ingeniously, and diligently interpret the prominent beauty of the ancient Oriental. As an Overseas Chinese, it allows me to see the great virtue and morals from the interactions/chemistry between characters. It was mind-blowingly great! Not to mention the editing of it is extraordinarily aesthetic! In my opinion, the editing of this show is comparable to the Hollywood movie. You will regret it if you don't give it a shot 😉
