Chantal

We love this series . My partner left Holland as a 7 year old but is chuckling before I get the subtitles read. Chantel's daughter is a gem , and growing like a weed as we watch . The cowboy themed Misery bar with a hitching rail and line dancing is a hoot . The Wild West of Belgium with a " sheriff" , teepee and cowboy hats a plenty.

I don't know how long it will take MHz to release season 3 but we are waiting with bated breath .

It's my first time watching an entire Flemish language Belgian series .

This is a light comedy police series: very refreshing !

Storyline is excellent.

Casting is really wonderful. The actors playing the various characters are simply brilliant and funny ! Great variety of characters.

This small, local police station, headed by the first woman ever in charge, investigate a range of murders and other very unusual occurrences.

I particularly enjoyed how good the screenplay is !

The humour is dark yet very funny at times.

Actress playing the chief is so funny.... the way she looks at people after they say something is so funny.

I downloaded this not knowing that it was a comedy drama which is a genre I particularly dislike. I lasted for about 15 minutes before switching off and deleting.

I'm sure this is something that appeals to a lot of people but that audience does not include me. In any case, I found the humour leaden and the situations ludicrous.

When I realised there was going to be a screechy, precocious brat involved in the series that was my cue to get out.

The filming locations looked interesting but the situations portrayed did not. I've seen so many good Flemish series in the past which is why I got this one. I should have done due diligence first to save my bandwidth.

I didn't know what to expect when my husband and I started watching Chantal on a whim on MGHz streaming. It is a fun and original show, where a smart woman steadily marches to her goal without letting herself be distracted, and where even the nasty idiots (neighbors, colleagues, ex-lovers) will get to show redeeming qualities, so we viewers can relish all these characters, warts and all.

These Belgian actors are fabulously efficient in their delivery and dead pan humour. We love the intonations of their flemish language (we watch the show reading the English subtitles) and we enjoy this comic window into a very provincial world of police work.

Detective Chantal is a sharp cookie under the guise of a country bumpkin. Her brand of feminism is discreet and gentle, but incisive when needed. Patience, kindness and wits. A great comedy without pretension.

This series took me a couple episodes to get into the psychological groove but once in, boy do I love it! It's quirky, so human, and very funny. The character of Chantal is expertly played: she is understated, very clever and always manages to snag the culprit with minimal damage to her environment.
