    Great Movie

I am a fourteen year old boy who saw a link to this documentary and was just going to take a glance.

However, once i started watching this, i was hooked! Sonics Gate accurately explains how the Sonic's franchise was STOLEN from Seattle.

Even if you are a Yankee's fan or you don't watch basketball, this documentary is a MUST WATCH.

Please take a little time to watch it!

It is my second-most favorite documentary of all time after Tupac : resurrection.

    With love,

    Zane; Faithful Sonics fan

    A Heartbroken City

This films in depth look at what really went on both publicly and privately definitely gives the viewer the insight for the "Sonics Scandal."

The amount of energy and pride that our city had when the Sonics were in town proves that we (Seattle) deserved a team.

The pain is like your wife cheating, taking the kids, moving across the country, and then getting re-married to the man she cheated on you with.

If your a big sports fan, please watch this movie. Think about if all this happened to your most beloved sports team.

    engaging sports documentary

I wasn't expecting this feature to be so well-made and intriguing. I decided to glance thru it just to see the contents. But one minute into it, i was truly engaged.

the filmmaker does a great job giving the sports history of the City of Seattle and the history of the Sonics. It made me understand why the citizens of Seattle loved their basketball. Being a fan of the Sonics' bitter rival, the Portland trailblazers, i found myself becoming a fan of the Sonics and a fan of the Sonics' fan. In saying that, i found it heartbreaking to see what happened to the organization, the city, and the fans.

I couldn't give it a full 10 stars just because it felt a little too biased. Some more perspective from the NBA and Bennett would have been nice, but i guess since they declined to be interviewed, we're not able to see that. Overall, a very excellent doc! PS. I hope Seattle does get another NBA franchise, and hopefully not at the expense of another struggling city.

    • Trivia
In April 2011, at a book signing for Howard Schultz's new book "Onward," a disgruntled Sonics fan managed to get to the front of the line and berated Schultz for his role in the Sonics' departure. Although not connected to the man who created the incident, "Sonicsgate" producer Adam Brown was filming the incident at the time, and at the behest of Schultz, was asked to leave.

Sherman Alexie - Writer: [in a bonus scene, talking about Howard Schultz's lack of commitment to keeping the team in Seattle] It's always interesting to me how it's mostly liberals in the U.S. How we freak out about conglomerates like Starbucks, McDonalds, Blockbuster, or whatever. Pretty much all of them started as mom-and-pop joints, and generally speaking, one person turned it into a huge, successful conglomerate. Now, we can talk about the ramifications of conglomerates, but it still took the skills and dedication of one person to bring the shop to success and fame. Howard Schultz took Starbucks from a little shop into an international sensation. That's amazing! It would be hypocritical to go on and on about Ray Allen's jump shot, and not commend Howard Schultz for his success. So, I'm not angry at him based on some liberal notion that he's inherently evil because he's a corporate honcho. In fact, I like Starbucks. Because in certain areas, you don't know how tolerant they are about minorities, but then you go to Starbucks, and you say, "Yeah! Starbucks doesn't care! The only color they care about is green!" There's something very inherently democratic about greed, that the greedier the corporate monster, the safer you are as an ethnic minority. There's power in that! But he has stopped being a member of a community for a long time. Basically, the rise of his company into an international conglomerate turned him into an international conglomerate himself, and he forgot, consciously, subconsciously, unconsciously, that he's also a member of this community. He forgot that he had a responsibility to the citizens of this city, and I blame him, and judge him, and condemn him for that.
