Horror-comedy is a much-underappreciated subgenre when it comes to anime; titles like Bakemonogatari or Dorohedoro are some of the best examples of the amalgamation of the two genres, but the majority of the well-made ones, perhaps with the exception of Mob Psycho 100, don’t get mainstream attention. That’s why when Science Saru’s anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan quickly became a hot topic among otakus worldwide last year, it was surprising to say the least. Fans who have gone through the manga or binged the first season already know full well that even though Dandadan somewhat lacks in horror factor, it more than makes up for it through some of the best dynamic, vibrant action animation in recent years, peppy character writing, and outlandish, zany comedy that lands pretty well. The series is making its return with a much-anticipated second season, so let’s go through...

The main series is mainly divided into 2 parts, Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, so you don’t need to worry about searching for a watch order or anything like that. Fans have already had enough with Monogatari and the Fate series.
However, one thing new fans may find themselves stuck with is the Naruto movies. The Apothecary Diaries is setting new records of fame and popularity for a show primarily geared toward women. It proves that you do not have to showcase cool fights and intense power-ups to depict an entertaining and interesting story.
Now that everyone is raving about the narrative and the characters of The Apothecary Diaries, this one franchise is not enough for fans. They want to venture out and find something similar because after this season ends, there will be a significant time before the third season airs.
Hence, for those who are looking for the next great show to start after The Apothecary Diaries, there is good news. Saiunkoku Monogatari is strikingly similar to Maomao’s tale, and everyone should check it out.

The Monogatari series watch order is one of the questions asked by anime fans who want to start watching this series. The series, written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Vofan, is about a girl in her third year of high school who helps the other girls attacked by vampires, ghosts, beasts, spirits, and other supernatural species.
Many critics have been giving the producer a negative response due to the non-linear storytelling and the release order, which often confuse newcomers. This made many potential viewers not learn it and check out other anime, which surely caused Monogatari to lose some viewers.

Welcome, readers, to Late to the Party , a column that's right on time when it comes to catching up on anime everyone's already watched. This column addresses a universal truth in regard to being an anime fan: an anime backlog is quite the powerful beast. Many of us have one, where we amass more and more content we have designated in the "planning to watch" category. How and why it takes so long to actually address this task varies from person to person, but the gratification of finally allocating the time is really quite splendid. Occasionally, it’s by watching a classic anime from yesteryear that you’ve had your eye on for quite some time. In other instances, it’s a more recent premiere that just slipped by. Seeing as we are now in the third month of the year, I decided to finally tackle an anime that had March in the title.

From explosive action flicks to grounded soul-stirring drama to suspenseful horror, anime is limitlessly diverse when it comes to tackling different genres. On top of the classic demographics, shonen, shojo, seinen, and josei, anime ventures into many stories to suit every taste, and even the most picky fans would be hard-pressed not to find something to enjoy within the medium’s expansive catalog.
However, whereas some anime genres, like battle shonen anime or high school romance, never struggle to achieve acclaim, the more obscure anime categories regrettably face prejudice from the casual anime viewer. Anime is a multifaceted medium, and limiting oneself to familiar genres could easily result in incredible shows falling through the cracks. These anime subgenres might be controversial, yet many fans might find their new all-time favorite titles within their ranks.

Anime is famous for its incredible diversity, aiming not just to entertain the viewers but also intellectually stimulate and provoke thought with some of its more complex plots. Despite being best known for action flicks and engaging yet straightforward shonen anime epics, anime offers no shortage of more elaborate stories that captivate audiences with their experimental structure, artistic distinctiveness, and narrative intricacy.

Goro Taniguchi has always had two eyes on the global stage, never allowing country borders to determine creative ones. This is perhaps best seen in smash-hits like Code Geass and One Piece Film: Red. The desire to bring anime to the global stage spurred Taniguchi's decision to lead Azuki's new series, adapting the Nft brand's dystopian worldview and vast catalog of anime-inspired character tokens to the small screen, scoring millions of views while doing it.
To cement his vision of a global worldview, Taniguchi recruited acclaimed creative Yukio Takatsu, known for anime openings in Naruto Shippuden, Monogatari, and the Persona 3 game, and whose work is personified by geometry, his roots within graphic design, and a similar unrestrained inspiration that even spurred him to take up residency in Paris, France. The anime and manga world has seen many instances where the story or the character is inspired by a real-life individual or scenario. The perfect example of this is Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, which has taken inspiration from almost every major historical event or character. However, what fans might not know is that even Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto has such a character.

Another chapter ends on a year of anime news, which means it's time to look back at the newsy calendar that was! Now in my fifth year of writing this , I've come to terms with one aspect of this roundup article that I'm changing going forward: Rather than highlighting articles published pre-2024 that still make it in our top-read of the year, I'm only listing articles actually published within the year in this top list. It was funny the first time to see articles from 2022 (and earlier!) still be the most read years after, but it didn't really feel representative of the year in anime news. Having said that, looking at the year makes it clear that Demon Slayer had truly returned, after last being on the list in 2022 . Solo Leveling also made an impressive intro, showing up most as a single title between the News and Features Top 10 most-read.

With growing popularity of anime, most streaming platforms have updated their catalogue with the availability of the latest anime titles. A single show can be found on different websites, which at first seems like a good thing but isn’t really. Especially when you consider that sometimes a show could be scattered across platforms. Kill la Kill was first released in 2013, and to this day, the anime enjoys a dedicated fanbase and substantial popularity across the world.

Despite the demand, it’s nearly impossible to watch the entirety of the show legally. This problem isn’t unique to Kill la Kill but it highlights a key reason behind the persistence of piracy.

An amalgamation of the three Kizomonogatari Films, Tekketsu, Nekketsu and Reiketsu, which are themselves adapted from the second novel in the monogatari series – a prequel to the others – Kizumonogatari – Koyomi Vamp – which premièred at the 2024 Fantasia International Film Festival - might be said to have a complicated pedigree. Newcomers should not let that put them off, however. Whilst there are peculiarities to the story which only make (a bit of) sense in the context of that other material, including later works in the Monogatari series, it’s easy enough to watch this simply as a story of boy meets vampire, boy goes all out to help vampire, boy discovers that now-powerful vampire might not be very nice.

Kizumonogatari -Koyomi Vamp- begins with a kinetic display of carnage where its main character bursts into flames and careens down a skyscraper like a rogue pinball. It’s a violent, chaotic way to begin this vampire tale that feels all-too thematically appropriate for its conflicted hero, Koyomi Araragi, who gets pulled in extreme directions as he struggles to gain control of his life. It’s not dissimilar to the madness that the audience experiences as Koyomi Vamp’s aggressive storytelling grabs hold of them and doesn’t let go for two-and-a-half hours.
Anime is dense in groundbreaking and foundational vampire texts, whether it’s Vampire Hunter D, Blood: The Last Vampire, Hellsing, or even absurdly violent monster titles like Wicked City and Demon City Shinjuku. However, Kizunonogatari -Koyomi Vamp- clears them all. There’s a strong case to be made that Koyomi Vamp is not just one of the best anime vampire movies of all-time,...

“I can’t believe we’re here,” a friend said to me about halfway through this year’s Il Cinema Ritrovato, which takes over the center of Bologna for nine glorious days every summer, before correcting himself: “It actually makes a lot of sense that we’re here, but I still can’t believe it.”
My friend was in awe not that we––a pair of New York cinephiles, both fairly well-traveled––managed to make it to beautiful Bologna, but that we had entered some kind of an Olympic village for cinephiles, each day filled with some of the most memorable moviegoing events of our lives and each night filled with hours of discussion about the day’s pleasures. At the festival, everyone’s first question is “how many years have you been coming?” and newcomers are warmly welcomed into the fray. The favored departure is not a “ciao” or...
