Summary
Reviewers say 'Running Point' is lauded for its humor, engaging characters, and the dynamic between Kate Hudson's character and the ensemble cast. The show's fresh take on sports narratives and exploration of family dynamics and leadership challenges are appreciated. However, some criticize it for lack of originality, excessive profanity, and predictable plotlines. Mixed opinions exist on character development and reliance on clichés. Despite these criticisms, many hope for a second season to further develop the story and characters.

When her drug addicted brother ends up in the hospital, isla (kate hudson) steps in as president of the pro basketball team. Each family member has some quirk, illness, or just some personal issue going on in their life. According to the trivia, this ten episode show is loosely based on the actual owner of the los angeles lakers. Various creators, directors, writers. The story gets even more complicated when someone they didn't even know about pops us to claim part of the inheritance. It's surprisingly good. And pay attention... every now and then, there's a reference to films that kate's mom (goldie hawn) has made. Currently showing on netflix. It does wrap up pretty neatly in episode ten. But of course, they also left it open for more seasons.
It really isn't good, but it's not terrible. Imagine how this show would look like if they didn't have huge stars and big production money, it would be trash. I was surprised to see mindy kaling and co was involved with this, warner brothers production. Its very flashy, they have law roach (???), so many cameos, so many great tv shows actors, and yet its a cliche on a cliche. I honestly can't tell if this was intentional, is this like a satire on sitcoms. Its so bad. The brother's dynamic, jackie's whole character and plotline, max greenfield. There is no storyline, no emotion, no chemistry between characters. The only good thing i have to say about this is BRENDA SONG. I love her and she is the only one that feels authentic. I love kate but i cannot watch another netflix production where the main characters can't move their facial muscles. Its kinds like a comedy sitcome but nothing is funny. Its quirky and cute, but thats about it, that the level.
Liked it. Didn't expect to, but I did actually. Binged it in about three separate sessions. I tried it for Kate Hudson cause I saw her on Graham Norton talking about it and I thought I'd give it a try. It is surprisingly entertaining and doesn't feel forced and unnatural. Which is quite rare for most comedy series these days. Very few good ones and even fewer on Netflix sadly.
I liked the character dynamics and the twisted relationships and here and there you can even find a little bit of depth. I hope they don't mess it up in the next season.
Got me watching a sports series so that's something...

If Netflix hadn't paid a social media company to submit about two hundred 10 rated reviews on here the true rating would reflect about a four...... which is exactly were it should fall. No better or worse than that. It is well made, production values are high, and I gave it an extra point due to the standout performances by Brenda Song and, in kind of a genius casting move, super douchy Chet Hanks basically playing himself (one wonders if he is smart enough to recognize the self parody)..... although casting a 5'8 thickly built white dude as a star NBA player required a bit of suspension of disbelief. Also, to Kate Hudson; For the love of all that is holy; stop injecting crap into your face. You are beautiful and you don't need it. Learn from your Mom's mistakes and age naturally.
I give Running Point credit for being relatively entertaining and not getting overly mushy, however, it's painfully obvious that the pitch for this show was "what if we combine Ted Lasso with and HBO's Winning Time." I've come to terms with the fact that there is no originality left in Hollywood and this show is a great example of that. It does have plenty of funny moments, but there isn't much depth going on here. The writing is pretty mid tier and littered with the typical talking points that has plagued television and film over the past decade. The same virtue signaling that has sunk Disney. Overall, I'd say it's worth a watch if you have a day to waste, but I wouldn't go out of my way.
