Rafi Gavron and Shiloh Fernandez have joined the ensemble of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” sources close to the actors confirm.
The Universal film’s previously announced cast members include Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo.
Universal shared in December that the film “is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time.”
Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem “The Odyssey” remains one of the oldest pieces of literature still read by modern audiences. It chronicles the story of Greek hero Odysseus during his tumultuous journey home following the Trojan War.

In late spring of 2000, a young Henry Cavill sat in a movie theater, his eyes fixed on the epic storyline unfolding before him. The film was Gladiator, and its star, Russell Crowe, commanded the screen as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a Roman general seeking vengeance. At the time, Henry was 17, and seeing his idol Crowe on screen fueled his desire to pursue a career in acting. Until that moment, Cavill had split his time between appearing in school plays and playing rugby.
In the same year, Henry and some of his classmates were invited to be extras on the set of Proof of Life, where they shared a scene with none other than Russell Crowe. Little did the teenage Cavill know that the man whose performance would leave such an indelible impression would eventually step into the role of his on-screen father in one of the most significant films of his career to date.

Henry Cavill already has three franchises lined up for the near future, and they are a lot better for him than a return as Superman and Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill’s acting career began in 2001 in the movie Laguna, and after roles in movies like Red Riding Hood, Stardust, and Immortals, along with the TV series The Tudors, his big break arrived in 2013 when he played Superman in Man of Steel. Cavill became a beloved actor in the superhero genre thanks to his performance as Superman, but that was only the beginning for him in the fantasy genre.
After starring in movies like The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and Enola Holmes, Cavill left DC’s universe after an uncredited cameo in 2023’s The Flash, and in 2019, he joined the universe of Netflix’s The Witcher. Cavill played the title witcher, Geralt of Rivia,...

Henry Cavill began acting while he was still in school, appearing in a production of "Grease" in between trips to the rugby field. The young performer must have taken to the stage; he began seeking a film acting career as soon as he graduated. Cavill landed his first professional role in 2001 in a film called "Laguna." He was only 18. The following year was busy for the young man, as he appeared in a TV movie adaptation of "Goodbye, Mr. Chips," an episode of the British crime drama "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries," and in the somewhat high-profile studio version of "The Count of Monte Cristo." The Alexandre Dumas adaptation also starred Jim Caviezel, Luis Guzman, and Guy Pearce, and it was put out by Spyglass Entertainment, so the 19-year-old Cavill was suddenly in front of millions.

Growing up, trying to find our way in the world, and making sense of changes can be a difficult and even frightening experience. The awkward uncertainty during the informative years had long found ties with the horror genre as a way to interpret real-life struggles. Combining the two genres has undoubtedly proven to be a successful pairing. From the gruesome Teeth (2007) to the often-celebrated The Craft (1996), coming-of-age horror movies have become fan favorites.
Yet one dark take on the coming-of-age genre is often touted as the best: John Fawcett's Ginger Snaps. Combining lycanthropic terrors with navigating the informative years certainly proved to be an insightful take on the genre, but there is one movie that did the same thing decades before. The Company of Wolves (1984) is often overlooked, but it is on par with Ginger Snaps and shares enough similarities that fans should be howling at the chance to...

Long before he was best known for being the DC Extended Universe's (Dceu) Superman or even a leading name, Henry Cavill was frequently seen in period dramas and romance movies. Back when he was typecast in these subgenres, he frequently took on supporting roles with varying degrees of importance to their respective plot. One such example is his role from 22 years ago as Albert Mondego in the 2002 adaptation of Alexandere Dumas' legendary tale of revenge, The Count of Monte Cristo. Albert wasn't the main character or antagonist in either the original novel or the movie, but he was still one of the story's most important characters. In brief, Albert was the son of Edmond Dantes, the protagonist who was wrongfully imprisoned for 13 years, who was raised by Fernand Mondego, the man who betrayed Dantes.
As Albert, Cavill served as The Count of Monte Cristo's moral backbone and was a constant reminder of Edmond's humanity.

Disney has not yet tackled the popular fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood in an animated movie, which is disappointing. The story of Little Red Riding Hood would be a great addition to Disney's catalog of animated films. It's not too late for Disney to adapt Little Red Riding Hood, and audiences are eager to see what twist the iconic company will put on the classic tale.
Over the years, Disney has taken on a number of different popular fairy tales, yet there is one that I am still waiting for, decades after they first considered it. Since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, Disney has been at the very top of animated children's movies. Walt Disney Studios has released record-breaking films whose stories have now become ingrained in pop culture. Yet, despite Disney's overwhelming animated movie catalog, there are still fairy tales that the company hasn't tackled.

Amid the glitz and glam of Hollywood, actors are often seen in a specific light, shaped by their roles and media appearances. And over the years, as the stars’ careers evolve, their way of presenting themselves in the public changes simultaneously. A similar arc was seen in the case of Henry Cavill, who seemed more relaxed and playful during the early 2000s, compared to his current personality.

The following contains spoilers for The Grimm Variations, now streaming on Netflix.
When it comes to Netflix's The Grimm Variations, there are quite a few thought-provoking themes on display. The anime's version of Cinderella, for example, leans into sociopaths and how some families have poisons within. One of the other main themes is feminism.
It's obvious with anime's Red Riding Hood. She has been revamped in this remix of the Brothers Grimm fairytales to hunt down toxic males in a cult that sexually assaults and objectifies women. Coincidentally, the sixth and final episode, "Pied Piper of Hamelin," leans even more into fighting oppression. The ending paints a very intriguing picture that is especially geared towards young women who are preyed upon and told they cannot be more.

The CBS drama Fire Country is turning up the heat with plans for a spinoff starring Morena Baccarin. Reports say Baccarin plays a sheriff in a Season 2 episode with the option to become a series regular in the simmering spinoff series. Deadline was the first to report the news, saying CBS Studios would produce the potential spinoff.
Baccarin’s sheriff character is named Mickey. She’s been a sheriff’s deputy for fifteen years and spent much of her tenure studying the landscape and populace of Edgewater. With a tremendous amount of hometown pride flowing like fire through her veins, Mickey does whatever it takes to keep the citizens of Edgewater free from harm.
Deadline says negotiations for the series began before the holiday rush, with Baccarin as the top runner to lead the proposed spinoff. The upcoming episode introducing Mickey acts as a backdoor pilot for the character, with...

Catherine Hardwicke explains why she didn't direct the Twilight sequels - the follow-up novels didn't resonate with her as much as the first one did. Hardwicke wanted other women to direct the sequels after her, but all four movies were ultimately directed by men. It's worth considering what The Twilight Saga would have been like if Hardwicke had returned or if another woman had directed the sequels, as her direction brought a unique visual style to the first film.
Original Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke explains why she didn't return for the sequels. The movie, based on Stephenie Meyer's 2005 novel, follows the relationship between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Along with Stewart and Pattinson, The Twilight Saga's cast includes Taylor Lautner, Billy Burke, Elizabeth Reaser, Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, and Kellan Lutz. Despite poor critical reception, Twilight was a box office success, but Hardwicke didn't return for any subsequent installments.

You probably didn’t imagine in your wildest of dreams that one day someone would make a film with a fairytale character as celebrated as Cinderella and turn it into a murder mystery. The famous story of Cinderella going to the ball is probably known to most fairytale aficionados. While Netflix’s latest Japanese import, titled Once Upon A Crime, is essentially a retelling of that famous fairytale, there is a pretty wild twist, which makes the film one of the weirdest things that I have seen in a while. It is right there in the title itself: in this Cinderella story, a “crime” happens. And that crime is investigated by none other than Red Riding Hood, who basically takes on the role of a mystery-solving detective. In what should be considered one of the most ambitious genre mashups, you get a taste of fairytale and murder mystery in the same place,...

Desperation often leads to violence when someone’s back is against the wall. Humans are animals, and when cornered, they’ll lash out, throwing caution to the win as part of a fight or flight response. In Lionsgate‘s Desperation Road trailer, a mother protects herself against a corrupted officer of the law, leading to gunfire, bewilderment, and a snap decision to flee the scene. Mistakes can catch up to the best of us, and secrets unravel easily when the past comes back to haunt you.
“In a small Mississippi town, justice and the law are two very different things,” reads the official synopsis for Desperation Road. “Academy Award Winner Mel Gibson, Garret Hedlund, and Willa Fitzgerald star in a modern noir thriller based on the acclaimed novel by Michael Farris Smith about two lost souls tortured by the mistakes of their past and bound by a secret that keeps them running.

Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, has become a worldwide sensation and broken numerous box office records, including the highest opening for a non-sequel and the biggest opening for a toy-based film. Other films directed by women have also made significant impacts, such as Pitch Perfect by Elizabeth Banks and Twilight by Catherine Hardwicke, which both achieved impressive opening weekends. Female directors have made strides in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with films like Eternals directed by Chloé Zhao and Black Widow directed by Cate Shortland, both garnering successful opening weekends and paving the way for more female-led superhero movies.
The acclaimed Barbie movie has joined the ranks of the best weekend openings for films directed by women. Approaching its third week in theaters, Barbie continues to dominate box offices, picking up unprecedented accolades and critical praise in the process. While not quite abandonware in the traditional sense, Fossil Games’ Abandonware: The Horror Collection looks to scratch that old-school gaming itch (as well as Dread X Collection fans), now that it’s out in Early Access on Steam. Combining nostalgia, retro gameplay and an unsettling atmosphere, Abandonware comes from the developer’s love of horror and true crime.
The story for Abandoneware has the development team finding an old internal 3.5″ hard drive. Since they’re the curious type, they decided to clean it up and plug it in to see what sort of stuff you they could find. What they do find is a custom operating system with what looks to be a collection of horror mini games. The Idol, the most controversial show of the year, or one could argue, of the past few years, has come to an end with a fizzle rather than a bang. In terms of substance, we can surely say the last two episodes of The Idol have more than the rest of the show put together. Although that’s not saying much, considering the show was cut down to just 5 episodes. There’s one major loophole in the series, and that’s about Tedros’ character and how he goes from pimp to wimp in a matter of days. The problem also arises because we don’t really know the timeline of the show until it’s mentioned, which happens very briefly in the last episode. Let’s get straight into everything that happens in the last episode of The Idol.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens In Episode 5?
The Idol Episode 5 begins with Jocelyn singing a new song,...

Fairy tales will collide with a twist when Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood must solve a murder in the upcoming Netflix original movie Once Upon a Crime. The story is adapted from the critically acclaimed original novel Akazukin, Tabi no Tochu de Shitai to Deau by Aito Aoyagi, in which Red Riding Hood solves crimes from classic fairy tales, including Cinderella and Hänsel and Gretel. Directed by Yuichi Fukuda, the movie will make its Netflix debut on September 14.

Plot: Follows an insecure American woman who unexpectedly inherits her grandfather’s mafia empire in Italy. Guided by the firm’s trusted consigliere, she hilariously defies everyone’s expectations, including her own, as the new head of the family business.

“You’ve never seen Catherine Hardwicke like this before” might as well be emblazoned on any and all marketing materials for the director’s diverse projects. From “Thirteen” to “Twilight,” “Red Riding Hood” to “The Nativity Story,” Hardwicke is constantly shifting gears, changing tones, mixing it up.
Since the breakout success of both Sundance award-winner “Thirteen” and the first “Twilight” film (a massive smash by any metric), Hardwicke has continued to evolve, even in an industry not always welcoming to women with big dreams. As she readies to debut her latest, the Toni Collette-starring fish-out-of-water comedy “Mafia Mamma,” Hardwicke is still pushing forward, even when it’s not easy. That’s just who she is.
“We still need that light to get shined a little brighter and put a little bit more attention on women’s films,” Hardwicke said during a recent Zoom interview with IndieWire. “We’re still fighting.

On paper, filmmaker Steven Spielberg and novelist Roald Dahl couldn't be more different. Spielberg has been known as a sentimental filmmaker, expertly presenting many heartwarming fables throughout his career. Thanks to films like "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "Always," "Hook," and "War Horse," one can see the optimist in Spielberg shining through. His films tend to end well for their protagonists, and his little kid characters experience growth and wonderment, even as they survive mayhem. Yes, Spielberg could be intense and bitter at times, but he's hardly known for his cynicism. Roald Dahl, meanwhile, might be defined by his cynicism. In Dahl's children's stories, the world is a bleak and aggressive place, full of abusive adults and systems designed to exploit children. "Matilda" takes place at the world's most miserable school. "James and the Giant Peach" begins with the eponymous character being horrible abused by his two aunts. It's a...

Mafia Mamma is a new movie by Catherine Hardwicke, director of Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, the first installment of The Twilight Saga, and the Red Riding Hood adaptation starring Amanda Seyfried. The Mafia Mamma premise was written by Amanda Sthers, a French novelist and filmmaker who previously worked with star Toni Colette on Madame, which she also directed.
This is a rare action comedy from Hardwicke. With “Cocaine Bear” notching another win in Universal’s recent run of “silly cinema” hits alongside “Violent Night” and “M3gan,” Bleecker Street is offering up its own escapist high concept pitch. “Mafia Mamma” stars Toni Collette as an American who inherits her grandfather’s business in Italy only to discover that the family business is the mafia.
With help from the firm’s consigliere (Monica Bellucci), she is placed in the position of having to acclimate to her new role as the head of a crime family while avoiding war with a rival family. This trailer — which you can see below — focuses on its protagonist and fish-out-of-water scenario, including Collette admitting she’s never seen “The Godfather” and giving momentary thought to using her newfound crime powers to whack her cheating husband.

Traditional fairy tales almost always have important lessons to teach. Goldilocks educates us on why you probably shouldn't just wander into a stranger's house one day and make yourself at home. Red Riding Hood alerts us to the perils of talking to suspicious strangers, even if they are wearing your grandmother's clothes. And Hansel and Gretel expand upon the "strangers are bad" lesson by teaching us that just because a house is made of candy, that doesn't mean you should necessarily start gorging on it.
Because all of these fairytales have a creepy bend to them, many, if not all, have been turned into horror films over the years. Sometimes the movies are obvious retellings of classic tales like 2020's "Gretel & Hansel" or 2011's "Red Riding Hood." Other times though, the fairytale source material is a bit harder to put your finger on.

Thanks to an unexpected selection of Oscar nominees for Best Cinematography on Tuesday — particularly, preliminary frontrunner Claudio Miranda missing the cut for “Top Gun: Maverick” — “Elvis” cinematographer Mandy Walker is suddenly the one beat, and now is the likeliest woman yet to break the category’s glass ceiling. She follows Ari Wegner (“The Power of the Dog”) last year and Rachel Morrison (“Mudbound”) in 2018, as only the third woman to be nominated by her branch. But neither Wegner nor Morrison were poised for a win like Walker is.
Who’s the competition? Two other first-time nominees: James Friend for the late-surging German World War I film that once seemed like a long shot — “All Quiet on the Western Front” — and Florian Hoffmeister, the Camerimage winner for the acclaimed “TÁR,” the Best Picture nominee that was snubbed by the ASC. They’re joined by a couple of Mount Rushmore DPs with...

CBS is pouring a kerosine tank on Fire Country this Friday with news of the show’s renewal for a second season. The order is for an entire season, making Fire Country Season 2 one of the network’s hottest properties. The show averages over 10 million viewers per episode in live airings across multiple platforms. In addition to tonight’s episode, CBS will air a special episode on January 29 after the AFC Championship game.
“It’s pretty remarkable to see a new series resonate like this with both broadcast and streaming audiences right out of the gate,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “Fire Country has so many appealing entry points for the audience. It combines high-stakes action with small town charm, mystery and romance, and a family franchise at its core. We’re blessed to have an incredible team in front of and behind the camera led by amazing...

Fans of Enchanted have finally gotten the sequel they’ve waited years for, Disenchanted, courtesy of the streaming-waves of Disney+. Both Enchanted and its sequel used every opportunity to deconstruct the familiar tropes and conventions of traditional fairy tales. Since fairy tales are some of the oldest and most well-worn stories ever told, they’re ripe for satire.
From Shrek to Hook to The Princess Bride to The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, plenty of beloved fantasy movies have poked fun at the time-tested traditions of the fairy tale genre.
Disenchanted (2022)
Fans have waited for over a decade to see a sequel to Disney’s fairy tale parody Enchanted, and the Mouse House has finally delivered that sequel. In Disenchanted, Princess Giselle disrupts the balance between the real world and her old animated kingdom.
Instead of just rehashing the formula from the first film like most sequels, Disenchanted puts a fresh...

Larsa Pippen has been in the news of late for her rumored romantic involvement with Marcus Jordan, son of basketball legend Michael Jordan.
The couple was spotted together at a Halloween party in Los Angelos. Photos show the duo dressed as Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf.
On Sunday, photos were taken of Pippen and Jordan enjoying themselves in Miami Beach.
One of the four photos that got the rumor mill going again had Jordan with his arms around Pippen as they walked across the beach, both seemingly enjoying the day. Another had Pippen wrapping her arm around him. The last of the four photos had the duo sitting side by side beneath an umbrella. Jordan even planted a kiss on her shoulder.
Pippen insisted last month that the two were only “friends.” She told People, “We’ve been friends for a few years and that’s really what it is.
