BAFTA TV Awards Organizers Spotlight Focus On New Voices In 2022; Two-Thirds Of Nominees In Performance Categories Are First-Timers
Image
More than two-thirds (67%) of this year’s BAFTA TV performance nominees are nominated for the first time, according to the award’s organizers, who hailed the organization’s impact on new voices.

The figure increased rapidly from 55% in 2021 and BAFTA Deputy Chair Sara Putt put this down to the drive for new, diverse talent along with BAFTA’s many programs that are bringing this new talent through.

Diverse performers such as It’s a Sin’s Omari Douglas and Lydia West along with Help’s Cathy Tyson have been recognized for the first time this year, along with creators like Jerk’s Tim Renkow, some of whom are BAFTA program graduates.

They will get the opportunity to go up against huge stars like Mare of Easttown’s Kate Winslet, with this year being the first in which performers in international shows are eligible for the Actor and Actress awards.

Rts Program Awards 2022 Start With a Slap Before Honoring Winners Including Jack Thorne, Russell T. Davies
Image
The Royal Television Society Program Awards 2022 started with a slap on Wednesday evening, when nominee Aj Odudu ran up to the stage and pretended to strike host Tom Allen.

“Oh my God, Aj, oh my God – I’m the one who’s lost their hair, don’t hit me,” Allen, who is bald, quipped in the evidently pre-rehearsed skit. “I never put my wife anywhere near your mouth.”

Continuing the reference to the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock, which took place at the Oscars on Sunday night, Allen continued: “I’ve got to look my best for tomorrow, I’ve got an audition for ‘G.I. Jane 2.'”

Watching from the audience at the Jw Marriott Grosvenor House in Mayfair, where the awards were taking place, were a bevy of well-known faces including “The Batman” star Andy Serkis, “Supergirl’s” David Harewood and “Succession” actor Matthew Macfadyen. The 20th Anniversary of 9/11 Will Be Televised, but I Won’t Be Tuning In
Image
The rush to produce as much September 11 #content as possible this year has an almost frantic undercurrent to it. For anyone old enough to remember it, the insistence that we Never Forget has haunted us ever since. Now there are countless 9/11 remembrances, tributes, news specials and retrospectives wanting to remind us of the devastation in granular detail, and as someone with a vivid memory of that day, I can’t imagine anything less appealing than spending its 20th anniversary watching a single one.

There are docuseries about what happened on the ground (National Geographic’s “9/11: One Day in America”) and the infrastructure of the towers themselves (History Channel’s “Rise and Fall: The World Trade Center”). There are interviews with children of the deceased (PBS’ “Generation 9/11”), the stunned Bush administration (Apple TV Plus’ “9/11: Inside the President’s War Room”), and the former CIA and Afghan officials who became embroiled...

‘9/11: One Day in America’: Powerful Nat Geo series features 50 first responders and survivors
Image
Kathy Comerford was working on the 70th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center on Sept 11, 2001 when United Flight 175 flew into the building at 9:03 a.m. She was literally blown out of her shoes. “I was looking for my shoes to get up, so I could get back down the stairs,” Comerford recalled. “I kept thinking this building is not going to take me. Comerford is one of over 50 survivors and first responders featured in the powerful and emotional National Geographic documentary series,...
