I played the game. And nonetheless this was such a lesson in storytelling that I felt that need to put the controller down and reflect about what just happened all over again. There was no controller though. The joy of feeling what I felt back then another time, albeit in a different but similar way was fantastic. Such an amazing job, phenomenal adaptation. 10/10.
But to anyone that has given this episode a bad review, I have to ask. Why are you even watching this show? I know they can't please everybody but if you're not a fan of the game or of the show, so far, then I would highly suggest watching something else rather than bombing the reviews because THIS is what Last Of Us is.
Having played the game several times I could confidently say that it holds true to the source material, while also expanding upon already existing and new characters. The writers were not joking when saying that they would not add anything, unless it's better.
The ending of this "section" still manages to shock me, mainly because of the brilliant performances by Bella Ramsey and Lamar Johnson, which actually made this version even more gut wrenching than the original.
Yet again Neil and Craig, I'm crying in my bed at 3 am since I live in the UK.
This episode got me right in the heart.10 years ago, I was genuinely surprise how a game manage to make me feel all those emotions... in a freaking zombie game. And now, the show let me discover a whole new version of the same story. And a better one IMO.
The writers, directors and actors achieved something truly unique here. This is how to do it. Please continue.

- TriviaLamar Johnson began learning the American Sign language via Zoom shortly after arriving in Calgary, and spent his time away from set learning the language. He did not want viewers to think his knowledge of the language was fake, and considered his performance important for Deaf representation. He felt spending time around Keivonn Woodard for production gave him a better grasp on the language; Woodard would sometimes correct his mistakes in scenes. Bella Ramsey similarly learned ASL during production.
- GoofsJoel is siphoning gas out of an abandoned car. 20 year old gas would be decomposed into varnish and would quickly destroy the engine of any vehicle in which it was used.

Henry: Okay, um. I don't know what the next step is with something like this, but if I lower my gun, we didn't hurt you, so you don't hurt us, right?
Joel Miller: [Low voice] That's right.
Henry: That's a weird fuckin' tone, man.
Ellie Williams: That's just the way he sounds. He has an asshole voice. Joel, tell him he's okay.
Joel Miller: [Still low voice] Everything is great.
Ellie Williams: Dude!
