A six-part documentary chronicling the life of Grammy-winner Prince will no longer be moving forward at Netflix. Per Variety, the documentary was set to be directed by Ezra Edelman, the filmmaker behind the 2016 O.J. Simpson documentary, O.J.: Made in America.

A Feb. 13 statement from Netflix confirmed that the Prince documentary is officially canceled at the streamer. “The Prince Estate and Netflix have come to a mutual agreement that will allow the estate to develop and produce a new documentary featuring exclusive content from Prince’s archive. As a result, the Netflix documentary will not be released,” read the statement.

This was the story of Lekh Tandon’s life: his films got recognition. He didn’t. Lekh Tandon was one of our most prolific and underrated directors. His range stretched from the playful Professor to the magical Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaye to the illogical Jahan Pyar Mile. His most celebrated film was the historical Amrapali (1966), which recreated the legendary romance between Amrapali, the courtesan, played by Vyjayanthimala, and Ajayshatru, the emperor of Magadh, played by Sunil Dutt.

It used to be rare that a completed film would be shelved. Sure, movies would sit on the shelf for years sometimes, but inevitably, they would receive some kind of release. The Weinstein brothers were infamous for shelving films when they ran Miramax, but even something like Prozac Nation, which sat on the shelf for four years, eventually came out. Up until a few years ago, the Jerry Lewis holocaust film The Day the Clown Cried was one of the only real examples of a finished film that was permanently put on the shelf, and in this case, it was by Lewis himself, who swore it would never see the light of day.

Yet, in recent years, more films have been cancelled after they’ve already been shot. Two of the more infamous examples come from Warner Bros, courtesy of studio head David Zaslav, with Batgirl and Coyote vs Acme...

First up, last year Michel Gondry shot Golden (formerly titled Atlantis), inspired by the childhood of Pharrell Williams and featuring the epic cast of Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry, Janelle Monáe, Missy Elliott, Quinta Brunson, Anderson .Paak, and Jaboukie Young-White. Universal Pictures had set a release for May 5, but now Variety reports the $20 million film has been scrapped “after unanimous agreement from producers and Gondry that the film did not live up to its developed conceit.”

He began as a fringe artist and became a music icon, but by the end of his career, few of his albums sold exceedingly well. They might have been worth it, of course, but music buyers might also tend to go with what is new and what is hot.

Netflix has officially cancelled Ezra Edelman’s Prince documentary following a period of uncertainty about the ultimate fate of the film. According to Showbiz 411, Edelman’s film “concentrated on Prince’s sex and drugs but not on his rock and roll,” and that was unpalatable to the singer’s estate who refused to sanction the film’s release.

Netflix announced the film’s cancellation with a press release, stating that it would be superceded by the production of a different documentary. The outlet’s Roger Friedman states this will be a very ‘sanitised’ version that meets the approval of the singer’s estate.

Warner Bros Discovery’s Turkish content chief Deniz Şaşmaz Oflaz has confirmed Max will launch in Turkey.

The international streamer will replace Wbd’s existing service, BluTV, which is acquired in full last year. During a panel at Content London, Oflaz revealed the switchover would happen in spring 2025 said her team was “working heavily on the changes.”

The BluTV team will begin informing local subscribers about the changes in coming weeks, with the new-look services combining existing originals and acquisitions, with Max’s library of Warner Bros movies, DC Universe shows, HBO content and more from the kids and docs genres.

The switch had been heavily suspected since the BluTV acquisition. Rolling off the streaming debut of its first French original series “The Confidante” and docu “Breaking the Bank,” Max announced two new French shows, and a Spring launch in Turkey during a panel discussion at Content London.

In Turkey, Max will bring together BluTV, a local SVOD service which it acquired last year, with HBO Originals, as well returning seasons of BluTV’s beloved local productions, Türkiye streaming originals, Warner Bros. movies, DC Universe, and true crime and documentaries.

Max is already present in 74 markets with over 110 million subscribers. The streamer will bow in “three of the biggest European markets coming in 2026,” the company said.

The inaugural slate of the service in Turkey will include “Prince” season 3 and “Magarsus” season 2. It will also include “The First Gokturk,” a fantasy anthology weaving Turkish and nomadic history, created by Alper Çağlar.

The Oscar winner spoke about the creative partners who impacted his life and career while appearing as a guest on the Tuesday episode of Vice TV’s Black Comedy in America series. Smith lists Jazzy Jeff, who he performed with as part of the hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, and Fresh Prince co-star Alfonso Ribeiro as two major influences on his journey to super-stardom.

Based on Cooper’s novel of the same name, the series is set in the Rutshire Chronicles universe and set against the background of the drama, excess and power-grabbing 1980s socially elite England, in the world of independent television.

Bel-Air is an incredible reimagined series which updates and reboots The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air decades after the original show came out. While the original show helped launch the career of Will Smith, the updated Bel-Air provides a much more gritty and realistic insight into the differences in social, economic and cultural classes, and the pressures that come with it.
