Hari ng stunt

'Carlo J. Caparas' (qv)' HARI NG STUNT (1981) is a 'Dante Verona' (qv) vehicle, chronicling the life of a movie stuntman, and his back-story of humble origins and a girlfriend who loses her eyesight. 'Vivian Velez (I)' (qv) is most winsome as the damsel in distress and 'Romy Diaz (I)' (qv) is a despicable baddie. Though lacking the elán and handsome charm of a, say, 'Fred Montilla (I)' (qv) or 'Ric Rodrigo' (qv), Verona digs deep into his character and most of his movies (with many action stunts lovingly photographed) become psychological character studies. Early on, one gleans the sensationalist streak of Caparas, as in the newspaper footage used in this movie ("STUNT MAN TO MAKE DARING LEAP AT FAMOUS BRIDGE" "MYSTERY MEN VANISH WITH STUNT REWARD BET" etc.), but this is one film where Caparas directs an actor quite competently and with masterful depth.
