Rocked In The Cradle Of The Deep

Jean Epstein, one of the leaders of the Avant--garde movie movement in the 1920s, contracted to make several shorts in 1931-1932. One of them was this one, in which the art song "Les Berceaux" is sung, while images associated with its metaphors appear.

The tune is one of the sort that the late Anna Russell described as 'drippy', a doleful affair in which we are told that women must weep, and men with vision will take ship beyond the horizon.
